HORNADAY TO SHOWCASE SKILLS / MAKE IMPACT AT ORANGE SHOWORANGE SHOW SPEEDWAY
Source: OSS Media Relations
Saturday, July 12th, will mark a return of Ron Hornaday to, not only his roots, but to a timeless definition of a true racer. Hornaday will not only compete in the Hornaday 100 presented by Blackjack Fireworks with the BSR West Super Late Models, as he did last time at OSS, he will also be racing a Modified in the Super Clean Modifieds 75-lap Main Event that same night. Ron is hopeful of a strong finish and no complications similar to that of the ASA CEC Street Stock Main event last weekend at the historic ¼ mile oval (please see attached photos). Please note that all drivers were able to walk away from the four car pile up that included one car wedged under another during the four car pile up after fluids covered the track on the entrance to Turn 1. Many feel Hornaday never got the opportunity to rise thru the ranks as NASCAR had been in the middle of a youth movement with upcoming Superstars like Gordon, Harvick and Stewart. He made his Winston Cup debut in 1992 at the Save Mart 300K in Bob Fisher’s #92 Chevrolet. Later Hornaday signed to drive the #16 Chevrolet Silverado owned by Dale Earnhardt, Inc for the then start-up Craftsman Truck Series. In the first season of competition, Hornaday won six races and four poles on his way to a third place finish. The next year, he won four races and the Series Championship. Although Hornaday has competed in Busch/Nationwide Series races in every year since 1998, he was only given the opportunity to race a full season three times (2000, ’03 and ’04). During those seasons, he finished no worse than fifth in series championship point standings and accumulated 4 wins, 21 top-five finishes and 46 top-ten finishes. Ironically enough, in 2000 he finished second in Rookie of the Year honors to a young racer by the name of Kevin Harvick, to whom he has forged a lasting relationship which brought Ron to Kevin Harvick Inc (KHI) later in his career where he most recently captured his 3rd Championship in the Truck Series. His commitment to family and those around him continues as Orange Show Speedway’s Director of Competition, Gary Stockman's son, Danny Stockman is Ron Hornaday's Truck Chief at Kevin Harvick, Inc., for the #33 Camping World, Chevrolet. Danny will also be on hand to Crew Chief for Ron and for his brother, Travis Stockman who will be driving his brand new Modified for the first time. Ron has been thankful of all the tremendous support that has come with KHI’s partner, Camping World. Members of the local Camping World Supplier in San Bernardino will be in attendance as well as setting up a booth to answer all your RV and outdoor questions. Additionally they will have collectable Ron Hornaday/Camping World #33 Silverado diecast and Camping World Racing banners available for purchase.
Ron will interact with fans one of two ways. With additional ties to local racing, fans will have a chance to purchase a special ‘Cold’ Pit Passes that will include admission to the speedway, opportunity to visit the pits prior to race time, and additionally receive a commemorative poker chip for the evening. Proceeds will benefit the Tri-C Kart Club. Immediately following the race activities on Saturday, Ron will host a post-race party at ‘Dan’s Garage Bar’ (OSS Patio) that will include a band performing live.
