MARTINEZ AND MCGEE TAKE MANZY MAIN EVENTS FRIDAY NIGHT AT MANZANITA SPEEDWAYMANZANITA SPEEDWAY

Paul Arseneau jumped out front when the green flag waved and even though he had Martinez behind him starting on the 11th lap, he held him at bay until Martinez went by and scored his fourth feature win of the year. A disappointed Arseneau, who scored his last main event win on June 7, 2006, finished second, his best effort of the year with Bobby Erdman in third. Danny Pearson came out of the eighth row to nab fourth ahead of Lyle Askren, Jr. Rounding out the top ten were Daren Olney, Joe Peterson, J.C. Parmeley, Mark Millan and Brent Radtke Accidents and mechanical problems sidelined 12 of the 21 cars in the feature and Ron Poe, points leader heading into the race, had mechanical problems in the trophy dash ending his night and dropping him to third in the chase for the championship. Erdman, who trailed Poe by eight points, is the new leader and is 34 points ahead of Bobby Taylor with Poe 42 points in arrears. The 21 car field was reduced to 14 with only two laps completed and was down to nine with five laps left to run. Radtke beat Steve Shumaker, Olney, Arseneau and Parmeley in the first heat race of the night. The second heat’s top five were Bobby Taylor, Charles Paxton, Troy Mangano, Mark Millan and Erdman. The final heat went to Martinez over Bob Millan, Dominique Askren, Kenneth Terry and Randy Thomas. Erdman beat Martinez, Shumaker and Poe in the four lap trophy dash. Gavin McGee led all 15 laps in the Manzanita bomber feature for his first ever win. He held off a late charge by Kevin Czoka who started 12th with Aaron Oachs taking third. Toby Webito edged Frank Outlaw for fifth. The rest of the top ten, in order, were Bill Lewis, Auto Sinclair, Scott Arnold, Jesse Johnson and Bear Taylor. The 31 car field ran four six lap heat races with the top four from each heat earning starting berths in the feature. The top four in the first heat were Outlaw, Wes Graham, Rex Hasley and McGee. The second heat went to Johnson who came out of the back row and scored a runaway win over Randy Odman, Webito and Sinclair. The third heat was another runaway as Daniel Romero easily beat Tom Kozak, Taylor and Arnold. In the final heat David Watkins, Czoka, Oachs and Lewis made the main event starting field. There were four spots still open and those positions were filled in the 10 lap semi main. Mike Bray took the win over Russ Odman, Mark Collier and Terry Cox. The trophy dash was won by Webito Stacey Askren beat a short field in the lady stock car feature as only four of the eight cars that had women scheduled to drive were disabled. Askren held off Savannah Tinch for the win with Brandy Wall and Monique Michaels trailing. Unable to run were Amanda Lilly, Amber Taylor, Susie Wood and Tammy Odom.
