ASA SPEED TRUCK CHALLENGE BACK IN HUNT FOR NEW POINTS LEADERASA SPEED TRUCK CHALLENGE
Source: ASA Speed Truck Media
The ASA Speed Truck Challenge has been accumulating quite a reputation this season of running some incredibly clean races with few-if-any yellow cautions in 50-75-100 lap main events. When asked why they are able to accomplish this unheard of statistic, Rutherford responded, “In our series, we have a simple rule on the track – “Give Respect-Gain Respect.” All our drivers, which include many rookies, know that if they don’t have the position to pass, they back off until another opportunity arises. I am not only proud of the way that they have been driving this season, but would still match our drivers up against any in the country with hard-charging ability and technique,” concluded Rutherford. As a result, in 2008 alone, the ASA Speed Truck Challenge has seen two track records set. On March 8th at Havasu 95 Speedway, second year driver Jason Black in the #9 Golden Lane Ventures / Empire Power Systems Chevy S-10, made history with a lap of 15.860 and on May 24th, at Orange Show Speedway, two-time ASA STC champion, Darren Young in the #18 United Nissan / Sudden Impact / Quaker State Chevy S-10 laid down a record-breaking blistering lap of 13.884 and finished second grabbing 116 points and the lead. The interesting fact is that the entire rest of the field at almost every race is just fractions of a second slower than the fastest qualifying times, proving that the drivers know what they are doing behind the wheel and that the series parity is exactly where Rutherford wants it to be for his talent-building West Coast traveling series. Orange Show Speedway announced this week that NASCAR’s famed Craftsman Truck driver, Ron Hornaday, in the #33 Camping World Chevy Silverado will be racing twice on the night of July 12th as a special treat to Southern California race fans. Hornaday, who hails from Palmdale, CA, regained the truck points lead last Friday night with another win at Memphis Motorsports Park. “I would highly recommend fans to come out for some excellent racing on this special night,” said Rutherford. “I know I’ll be there ready to see Ron mix it up with some of the area’s best drivers.”
