YACKEY WINS THE COORS LIGHT 100 AT COLORADO NATIONAL SPEEDWAYCOLORADO NATIONAL SPEEDWAY

![]() Bruce Yackey powered his Monte Carlo to the win in the Coors Light 100 for the ableplanet Late Model division Saturday night at Colorado National Speedway. Yackey took the lead on lap 41 from Bear Lynch and held on for the final 59 laps. In a wild SUNOCO Grand American Modified feature, Jace Hansen dominated for his first 2008 win in the division. Emett Grazier and Dennis Edwards were side by side for the Doc Popcorn Super Stock win with Grazier getting the close win. In the Loveland Goodyear Figure 8’s, defending champion Al Duran claimed his fifth win of the season.
The Loveland Goodyear Figure 8 division was first out on the track for their 20-lap feature event. Joe Matlock jumped out to the early lead over Nick Martinez Al Duran, Harry Livermore Jr and Phil Taylor. Frank Gastineau spun after contact for a lap 3 caution and was towed off. On lap 5, Matlock and Bubby Hohn tangled with Matlock making a quick pit stop. Martinez now led over Duran, Livermore, Jared Wall and Taylor. John Johnson took fifth on lap 6, and Wall got by Livermore for third on lap 9. On lap 12, Johnson got by Livermore for fourth and Vic Johnsen got by Livermore for fifth on lap 17. Duran cruised to the win over Martinez, Wall, Johnson, and Johnsen.
The 33-car Doc Popcorn Super Stock feature rolled out for their 25-lap battle with 11 cars going to the rear for pre-race tech infractions. Chris Cox led the first lap, but Emett Grazier was in command on lap 2. Dennis Edwards took second a lap later with Cox falling to third, over Mike Cox and Mario Garramone. M Cox got by C Cox for third on lap 4, and Chris Pinelli spun for a lap 9 caution. Garramone got by C Cox on lap 12, and Darrell Smith peeked into the top 5 on lap 14. On lap 22, Gerry Gardner spun for a caution to bunch up the field for a showdown. Darrell Smith fell back on lap 24, and the Cox brother Chris and Corey battled it out for fifth. While that was happening, Edwards was giving Grazier all he had, and Edwards came up a bumper short at the checkered flag. Grazier took win number 6 of the season over Edwards, M Cox, Garramone and Chris Cox. The two cars on the move from the back were Corey Cox and George Gallegos as they started in the rear due to pre-race tech infractions and finished sixth and seventh respectively.
The SUNOCO Grand American Modified 30-lap feature got off to a very wild start. On the first turn, contact sent Jeff Hansen airborne and headed for the turn 2 wall. Hansen saved the car and the caution flew. Back under way, Jace Hansen took the lead over Paul Deines, Ed Vecchairelli Jr, Mike Castagno and John Seely. Terry Tjarks and Marc Ferguson collided for a lap 2 caution to bunch up the field. Forest Smith took fifth on lap 7 and then was fourth on lap 12. On lap 15, Ed Vecchairelli took fifth from Castagno then Castagno’s car sounded rough and pitted. Jace Hansen ran off with the win over Deines, Vecchairelli Jr, Smith and Vecchairelli. The Vecchairelli’s were both disqualified moving Smith to third ahead of George Wetzel and Castagno.
The Coors Light ableplanet Late Model 100 was next on the agenda. Steve Yackey stormed to the early lead over Dave Finley, Bear Lynch, Rick Smith and Darren Crocker. On lap 5, a yellow was thrown as Smith was on fire and he pulled off to the safety crew. Crocker was now fourth ahead of Bruce Yackey. Mike Hannah broke and a lap 13 caution was thrown as he didn’t get far enough off the track. On lap 21 a caution was thrown for a spun Finley as he was fighting for the lead. Finley went to the back bumping everyone up and moving Ronnie Hults into fifth. Lynch took the lead on lap 29. B Yackey moved into third on lap 30 and was second on lap 34. Hults moved in to fourth on lap 35, and was third on lap 37. B Yackey took the lead on lap 41 from Lynch, and Hults was second on lap 45. Joe James Jr who started in the seventh row peeked into the top 5 on lap 46, and he was fourth on lap 47. At the mid-way point, B Yackey led Hults, Lynch, James and S Yackey. On lap 54, Mike Bowen and Finley spun and Derek Murphy spun to avoid contact. James got by Lynch for third on lap 61. Crocker was back in fifth by lap 62 and James was second on lap 67. Caution flew on lap 76 when Nick Rozack was backwards against the turn 4 wall. Lynch got sideways on lap 80 and fell back and Hults started fading with a rough sounding car. Crocker was up to third by lap 82 over Hults and S Yackey. Bowen spun for a lap 96 caution and under the caution Hults night ended as his car caught fire and Hults got a face-full of smoke. Tyler Chrisinger was now fifth, and Darren Robertson took over the position on the restart. On lap 97, Tyler Chrisinger got spun around with Smith and Bowen both spinning to avoid Chrisinger. Crocker got by James on the restart, but James fought back as B Yackey took the win over James, Crocker, S Yackey and Roger Avants. Colorado National Speedway Race Results -- 07/26/2008
