Fountain, Colo. (May 19, 2001) – Craig Raudman of Bakersfield, Calif. qualified his Dave Reed owned Yerf-Dog Chevrolet with a time of 26.870/133.978mph to set a new track record for the Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring division at Pikes Peak International Raceway Saturday afternoon in preparation for the running of the SUNSTATE EQUIPMENT COMPANY “100” scheduled for Sunday (May 20) at 4:45pm. The Bud Pole Award was Raudman’s fourth consecutive award in the 2001 Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring this season. Today’s Bud Pole Award at PPIR ties Raudman with 1995 Series champion, Lance Hooper. Hooper set the mark with four consecutive Bud Pole Awards back in 1995. Raudman now has 14 poles in his Featherlite Southwest Series career, and he is second only to 2001 series point leader M.K. Kanke, who has 25 career Bud Pole Awards. “I think our team has all the things ironed out right now,” Raudman said. “We are headed in the right direction. I have a great team, a great car, and a great owner.” Burney Lamar of West Sacramento, Calif. led an impression group of eight Rookie-of-the-Year candidates who all qualified for Sunday’s event. Lamar will start seventh on the grid, followed by Jerome, Idaho’s Eddy McKean who will start eleventh and continues to showcase his talents at tracks he has never seen. The Featherlite Southwest Series is one of nine NASCAR Touring Series that blanket the United States. NASCAR Touring brings special events to many NASCAR Weekly Racing Series tracks and some NASCAR superspeedways and road courses. NASCAR Touring Series can provide a competitor with an entire career, or they can provide valuable experience to competitors moving through the NASCAR ranks. Corporate sponsors make significant contributions to NASCAR Touring Series point funds. The sponsors include Anheuser-Busch, Featherlite Trailers, Gatorade, Goody's Headache Powders, O'Reilly Auto Parts, Raybestos Brakes, RE/MAX International, Inc., and R.J. Reynolds brand Winston.
