SCOTT LYNCH TAKES WIN AT MAGIC VALLEY SPEEDWAY

Twin Falls, Idaho - (August 11, 2001) The ninth race of season and also the last trip of the year to Magic Valley Speedway was enough to bring out 18 cars. Genesis Manufacturing & Distribution Rookie of the Year candidates Travis Kidd #55 and Greg Hillock #36 would be battling out with only (?) points separating the two. The ILMS championship chase is just as tight with just two points separating Joe Hood #37 and Russell Butler #25. Kenny Rich #30 is in third just 34 points behind and leading three other drivers, who are also chasing Butler and Hood.

The first practice session saw #27 Rick Webster get loose and spin going into turn two and #36 Greg Hillock spin coming out of the same turn, both in separate incidents. In another incident Jeff Flynn spun coming out of turn four. The second session saw the #26 of Jim Curbow take a off road trip in turn three when he got loose and went over the embankment.

Qualifications saw #25 Russell Butler get loose out of turn four and take out the timer. Fast time was posted by #30 Kenny Rich with a 14.598 and was followed by #49 Jeff Flynn (14.610), #36 Greg Hillock (14.623), #37 Joe Hood (14.713) and # 49 Russell Butler (14.749).

The first heat race had the #26 of Jim Curbow leave on the parade lap with a fluid leak. After the clean up, the green flag dropped and #77 Gary Porter jumped out front. Rick Webster in the #27 car left the track on lap 5 with mechanical problems which brought out a caution as fluid possibly was laid down in turn three. On the restart #77 Porter was in front followed by #84 Zan Sharp and #36 Greg Hillock. Lap seven saw Sharp take the lead which he held until the #36 of Greg Hillock took it on lap eleven and while he had to hold of #30 Kenny Rich for the Win.

In the second heat race the #99 car went off the track on the parade lap with unknown problems. The #29x of Scott Lynch jumped the start and the yellow was thrown to get them re-lined up. Will slowing down #72 Jeremy Zeiler ran into the back of the #49 of Jeff Flynn causing body damage to the front end, causing him to leave the track. Lap four had Lynch out front and pulling away with #37 Joe Hood followed by #55 Travis Kidd. Three laps later Kidd was black flagged for a fluid leak. Lynch took the checkers and was followed by #37 Joe Hood, #49 Jeff Flynn and #16 Bret Houskeeper.

The Main event saw the 29 of Scott Lynch jump out front and take the lead on the first lap followed by the #55 of Travis Kidd and the #84 of Zan Sharp. By lap eighteen Lynch along with #49 Jeff Flynn, #84 Sharp, #36 Greg Hillock, #37 Joe Hood and #30 Kenny Rich had to start fighting lap traffic until the yellow caution flag came out on lap twenty seven when #50 Fred Walker got loose coming out of turn one. Gary Porter #77 went high to avoid Walker and got into the dirt above turn two.

The restart saw Lynch once again pull out away from the field with #49 Jeff Flynn, #37 Joe Hood, #36 Greg Hillock following behind. Lynch maintained his lead while #36 Hillock was able to get around Hood in the next few laps. Taking the checkered flag #29 Lynch gets his first ILMS win of the season, followed by #49 Jeff Flynn, #36 Greg Hillock, #37 Joe Hood and #30 Kenny Rich rounding out the top five.
