“We just slowly worked our way to the front, this is my home track, and I have raced here for five years. I was just buying time” said Anthony who has won four of the last five races at Altamont.

Ron Strmiska Jr. of Manteca paced the field of 29 cars in qualifying with a lap of 18.400 around the half mile track. Anthony qualified second, stopping the clock with a lap of 18.413. Joey Zampa a two-time winner in 2002 qualified third, followed by Dave Byrd and Chris Wadsworth.

A ten car invert put 2001 series champion Nathan Tucker of Sonora on the pole. As the green flag fell, Tucker took the lead, with Mike Doss, Tim Stratmeyer, Tracy Bolin and Dave Byrd rounding out the top five. Anthony moved into the fifth position on a lap six caution for a spinning Mike Doss. Dave Byrd made a move on Stratmeyer on lap 31 to take over the second position. Byrd and Tucker made contact exiting turn four, sending the leader into a spin, and bringing out another caution.

As the field went green once again on lap 43, Tim Stratmeyer inherited the lead. On lap 56 Jeff Anthony passed Stratmeyer for the lead coming out of turn four. Anthony begun to pull away from the other racers and the race remained green. On lap 81 Joey Zampa passed Chris Wadsworth for third on his way to the front. Then on lap 85, Zampa passed Stratmeyer to take second position, where he would later finish.

“My car was real consistent throughout the race. I want to thank my crew and parents for there help and support” stated Zampa.

A late race caution on lap 99 for Ray Lawson Jr. bunched the field up one more time for a green, white checkered finish. On the restart, Anthony held off Zampa to take the victory.
