LOST BUT NOT FORGOTTENGLENDALE, Arizona -- The year 1989 seems like such a long time ago, however, it was the year that a child with his entire life ahead of him and his mother disappeared with evidence indicating foul play. Daniel Stephan Spangle, less than two years old at the time, along with his mother vanished from their Lancaster California apartment.

On March 1st 1989, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department found the Spangle family’s front door left open as well as the rear sliding glass door which appeared to have been forced open. Both Daniel and his mother remain missing.

Daniel, at that time, weighing thirty five pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes was three feet tall with a scar on top of his left eye lid. Daniel’s sixteenth birthday will come to pass on May 13th of this year.

In reviewing the many thousands of files at the Nations Missing Children’s Organization and Center for Missing Adults (NMCO), we happened across the file with Daniel and his mother. We found ourselves unable to continue reviewing the cases at that point. On a day to day basis I see the happy faces of parents playing with their children and sometimes not so happy. This case struck my heart with sadness. A beautiful child, what happened? “I will not forget these little ones, they are our future and need to be taken care of” said Darrell LaMoure of the NASCAR “Elite Divisions” Featherlite Southwest Series Napa Auto Parts / Yerf Dog Fun Karts #94 Chevy.

Desert Thunder Motor Sports continues their mission of creating public awareness of missing persons with their partner NMCO. “By utilizing Darrell’s race team in the most popular sports venue, NASCAR racing, we are able to reach thousands of families” said Mark O’Cheltree, vice president of NMCO. Saturday, April 5th 2003, Racing for the Missing brings their public awareness campaign to El Cajon Speedway in El Cajon California in the Coors Light “125” Races starting at 5:00pm and will be providing information on Daniel and Denise Spangle’s disappearance.####
