CAMERON SIDELINED FROM CALIFORNIA EVENTROCKLIN, California -- Austin Cameron will not compete as the driver of the #16 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet in Saturday’s Pontiac Wide Track Grand Prix 200 NASCAR Winston West Series event at California Speedway.

Cameron was diagnosed earlier this week with lymphoblastic lymphoma cancer. Final results late yesterday determined that Cameron should not drive in the race this weekend. He is beginning treatment today at Grossmont Cancer Center.

“While we are stunned at this news, everybody at Bill McAnally Racing and our sponsors are very optimistic that Austin will have a full recovery from this,” said car owner Bill McAnally. “Our first concern is standing behind Austin and helping him anyway we can during his treatment and recovery.”

“In meeting with Austin and his family, it was decided that getting him into treatment was our priority,” McAnally said, “Austin will continue to be a big part of the team during his treatment. We are going to approach this race by race. He will be involved as his health allows. We are hopeful he will attend this weekend’s event.”

“Looking back, we knew Austin’s actions in the last event were uncharacteristic of him,” McAnally said, “Now we realize he was battling more than just a lingering cold as we had thought.”

For fans who wish to send cards or express their support to Austin, the team asks that those be sent to the team shop at: 3630 Cincinnati Ave., Suite B, Rocklin, CA 95765.

Cameron has been a regular in the Winston West Series since 1998, when he won the Rookie-of-the-Year Award. The 26-year-old competitor from El Cajon, Calif., has started in 62 races – with six wins, eight poles, 27 top-five finishes and 40 top-10 finishes. He is ranked fourth on the list of career money leaders in the series with $670,586.####
