TRACY, California -- On a scorching Saturday at Altamont Raceway Park, Scott Holloway captured his first feature win on the 1/2 mile asphalt track for this season, charging hard from a 4th starting spot to take the early lead from dash winner Russ Wullenwaber. The 20 lap main event ran at a furious pace with only one caution for the overheated car driven by Steve Amador. Pat Ariaz, returning from a sweep at Altamont two weeks ago, started on the front row with last season's rookie of the year winner Russ Wullenwaber. Holloway started on the second row next to last week's Marysville feature winner Ed Amador. At the green, Wullenwaber took the lead with Holloway and Ariaz dueling for the #2 spot. Holloway overtook Ariaz, and on lap 2 made the move on Wullenwaber with his classic outside pass. The "Flying Farmer" Ed Amador made an exciting attempt at a last lap pass on Ariaz, but was unsuccessful this time, and at the checkers, it was Holloway, Wullenwaber, Ariaz, E.Amador, and Shipherd in the top 5.

The 8 lap heat race was won by Pat Ariaz, who took the early jump on Keith Shipherd. The race had some breath holding passing action when Shipherd, Amador, and Wullenwaber went 3 wide down the back straight. A thrill for everyone is a first time trophy dash win, and the elated smiles were contagious when we witnessed Russ Wullenwaber's exuberant victory. Wullenwaber charged to the lead at the green with Holloway pressuring him from behind all the way to the checkers. Wullenwaber attributed his win with the purchase of another new tire, and for his crew's hard work as well.

A welcome addition to tonight's races was new NCMA asphalt official, Tim Liddle, who kept things running smoothly. The evening's races were sponsored by the John Gomes family. The late John Gomes, Sr. was a former club official who also did some announcing at Altamont. The Gomes family presented Holloway with a generous check for tonight's purse. Holloway's decisive victory makes it his 3rd feature win for the season, and gives him a sizable point lead in the NCMA sprint championship, but the season is still young. NCMA's next races will be on July 12 on the fast 3/8 mile dirt track in Fernley, Nev., and Saturday, July 19 at Chowchilla Speedway.
