Source: Palmer/South Sound Speedway
Willy Thom and Wilbur Bruce started on the front row of the 200 lap main event. Bob Presley and Nick Behn were right behind them. As the green flag flew Jeff Walcker took his car off the track but returned two laps later. After crossing the line of the first lap, Bob Presley spun into the infield. A yellow was thrown and Presley got back behind the pack without losing a lap. The track was cleaned up and racing got back underway. Nick Behn had been in second behind Bruce but on lap 12 Troy Conrad took over dropping Behn to third. Eric Tibbitts was running fourth with Angela Cope in fifth. On lap 35 Cope passes Tibbitts for fourth. On lap 39 Conrad passed Bruce for the lead. The next caution came on lap 40 when Mitch Franklin, Nick Behn and Wilbur Bruce got in a big pile up in turn three. Franklin's car was on top of Behn's. Also getting damage from the accident was Angela Cope who had to go in to remove sheet metal and lost a lap. Troy Conrad also got some damage and a flat tire and had to leave the track to get it fixed. Eric Tibbitts was the new leader with Wes Rhodes in second and Amber Cope in third. Brian Wiener and Willy Thom rounded out the top five as we went back to green flag racing on lap 45. The next caution came on lap 49 when Thom and Wiener got together. Thom lost a lap and Wiener left the track but returned later in the race. Another caution came out on lap 54 when cars piled up on the front stretch. Involved were Angela Cope, Ron Wolf, Chad Hinkle and Willy Thom. Thom and Cope were up against the front stretch wall. Both had to be towed off. By lap 60 the race was back to green with Tibbitts still leading and Amber Cope close in second. Jim Wilcox was in distant third followed by Dan Rhodes and Bob Presley. Another caution on lap 67 involved Jimmy McVey, Tim Gosch, Ray Wallace, Wilbur Bruce, Troy Eaton and Mitch Franklin. Gosch, Wallace and Eaton were unscathed but McVey, Franklin and Bruce had to take their cars off the track. Another caution came right away on lap 72 for debris. Racing got back underway with 23 laps until the mid-race pit stops. Racing went on until lap 93 when a caution was thrown for debris. The mid-race pit stop was done a little early on lap 97. All the cars were allowed two tires and gas to finish the race. The race restarted on lap 98 with Eric Tibbitts, Amber Cope, Jim Wilcox, Dan Rhodes and Tim Gosch make up the top five. Lap 100 was the first caution of the second half. Ron Wolf and Bryan Wiener got together in turn two knocking them both out of the race. Also leaving the track during these cautions were Troy Eaton and Mitch Franklin. On lap 126 Dan Rhodes spun and lost a lap to the leader. He battled with Tibbitts who was leading for many laps to get it back and finally did on lap 132. Amber Cope was running second with Bob Presley in third, Tim Gosch in fourth and Wes Rhodes in fifth. On lap 149 lapped traffic came into play and Amber Cope got the lead from Tibbitts but only for two laps. Things were going smooth until lap 172 when Cope spun in turn two. She didn't lose a lap but was at the very end of the pack. It was then revealed that Eric Tibbitts had a flat tire. Tibbitts left the track on yellow lap 175 after passing the flag stand. He then returned at the very end of lap 176. With quick reaction by his pit crew he didn't lose a lap. However, it was a good break for Ray Wallace, Don Waterman, Jim Wilcox and Wes Rhodes who all regained a lost lap when Tibbitts exited. With 22 laps remaining the race went back to green with Bob Presley leading followed by Tim Gosch, Amber Cope, Eric Tibbitts and Jim Wilcox. There was one last caution thrown for Curt Zelmer who apparently was leaving some fluid on the track. After the race went back green, there were 13 laps left. Bob Presley was the winner with Tim Gosch in second and Amber Cope in third. Also finishing on the lead lap were Eric Tibbitts, Jim Wilcox and Wes Rhodes. Woodward captured the fastest qualifying time. Bobby Micielli won the trophy dash. Dennis Anderson led the first lap of the heat race and Mike Brooks led the second lap before a yellow was thrown. The caution was for Dan Woodward who scattered a motor. Mike Brooks, Dennis Faulkner and Woodward all went off the track on that lap. After eight laps, it was JJ Hamilton who won with Ron Ehli and Bill Posh Jr. in behind. The first attempt to start the main event fell short as Bobby Micielli got into the wall on the front stretch knocking him out of the race. Mike Brooks led the first four laps of the main event before Rob Ehli took over. JJ Hamilton took the lead on lap eight with Ehli in second and Steve Ford in third. The only caution came on lap 15 for debris and Dennis Anderson slowing on the backstretch after being hit by another car. Mike Brooks left the track as well as Anderson and David Patrick. This left five cars on a seven-lap shootout for the finish. JJ Hamilton won for the second week in a row with Steve Ford in second and Ron Ehli in third.
