The 2003 Northwest Street Stock Tour Champion is Brian Overturf of Portland, Oregon. After 15 races, Brian collected 1510 points winning the championship by just 40 points over 2nd place. He won the pole 3 times, setting track records twice. He chalked up 13 top ten finishes, 12 top fives, 3 Trophy Dash wins, 2 Heat wins and won an impressive 5 Main Events.

A lifelong race fan, Brian got into driving a race car just four short years ago on the good advice of his father. Before his dad died, he told his son not to spend his whole life working, go and have fun with your life because it is too short. So Brian did just that – he bought a race car and started his racing career at Portland Speedway. He raced there until the Speedway closed, then joined the NWSST. He has also raced several other tracks in between. Brian has done well in such a short time by paying attention and learning all he could from other drivers, testing the information on the car and track, and then using what worked best for him. Being mentally prepared for each race, he listened to his car and adjusted to it. Crew chief Ken Manginelli also helped by watching from track side. Together, they worked at improvements. Obviously, they made a pretty good team! Brian feels his strengths are being able to keep the car in top shape, maintaining lots of horsepower and avoiding wrecks. His weakness lies in the corners; he wants to be able to get through the corners quicker.

The NWSST has given Brian the opportunity to continue racing after Portland Speedway closed. Not only has he had a really good time over the last two years, he’s made some lifelong friends through the tour. He plans on continuing with the NWSST next year and will concentrate on improving his performance on dirt tracks. Best advice Brian offers to others is to “have fun, above everything else. That's what makes racing so great.”

Brian thanks the NWSST, his crew and friends, his sponsors Bud's Auto Wrecking, Clay's Differential, R S Davis Recycling, Ryan R Blair DMD, First Pacific Mortgage, Hanson's Auto Body, Spain's Muffler, Division Street Tire Factory, Eastside Steel and the Canham Family; without their support he never would have won the championship.

From everyone in the NWSST – Congratulations, Brian – it was a great season! Good luck next year! If you would like to know more about the NWSST, see complete race results, standings, schedule and news, visit us on the web at www.nwstreetstocktour.com - because its all racin' and its all good!####
