NW STREET STOCK TOUR DEBUTS AT TRI-CITY RACEWAYNORTHWEST STREET STOCK TOUR
Source: KD Colton
Mike Crase picked up the win in the B Trophy dash and Mike Aubrey claimed the A Trophy dash win. The Heat races got exciting as both groups ran 3 wide many times trying to get to the front. Daryl Schlaht took the checkered flag in the B Heat, winning by just a nose over Mike Crase. After leading off the A Heat race, Pete Kelly blew his engine on the front stretch to bring out one of only two yellow flags for the entire night. Rhett Daily took over the lead and held off Chris Schlaht to win the A Heat race. Fourteen cars filled the starting grid for the Main, but only twelve took the green flag. Greg Taylor's machine suffered a battery failure and was unable to get started in time. While the 92 of Dave Cannon suffered a motor problem. Kevin Martell sat on the pole and Keith Clevenger started in the 8th position for the invert. Brad Stanwood, the current points leader, started in 9th and Mike Aubrey brought up the rear in his attempt at the Hot Shoe Award. The green flag and the rain drops flew at about the same time. Rhett Daily, along with Daryl Schlaht flew out to the lead with Chris Schlaht close behind. The green machine of Chris Schlaht didn't take long catching Daily but passing him wasn't as easy. Meanwhile, Brad Stanwood has moved up to 3rd and M. Aubrey had raced up to 5th place. By lap 6, Schlaht had claimed the lead and was working through lap traffic three circuits later. The drivers then settled into mostly single file racing and Schlaht steadily opened up his lead. Stanwood relentlessly worked the 2nd place car of Daily and M. Aubrey gained ground on them every lap. The only caution of the race came out on lap 25 when Clevenger spun around on the front stretch. He was back under power right away and the green flag was out again on the next time around, just long enough for the field to close up behind Schlaht. At the restart, Schlaht started opening up his lead again but Daily ran him down and gave him a run for the money. Officials put out the white flag on lap 29, cutting the race short by 5 laps due to rain. Chris Schlaht took the checkered flag followed by Daily, Stanwood, Mike Aubrey, D. Schlaht, Guiberson, S. Aubrey, Crase, Martell, Nelson, Clevenger and Kelly. Driver of the #71 Affordable Clutch and Brake Chevrolet, Chris Schlaht says he really enjoyed racing this track but it's hard on tires! He hopes that the NWSST will return to the Tri-City Raceway and he always enjoys running with this tour. He also hopes the rest of the season goes as well for him as this night did. Good luck, Chris!
