The Spec Motor Modifieds had Rookie Noah Salazar win his first race tonight. Salazar led from green to checkered in clean air. Several other racers tried to get around him but it never happened. Glen Cook worked from the middle of the pack to a great second place. Tracy’s Rick Ruzbarsky was jumping from car to car, Baby Grand to Spec Modified, started in the rear and brought his Spec Modified in third. He also won his heat. Joe Rodriguez from Brentwood had his best finish in this division and was fourth. He won his heat also. Pat O’Keefe rounded out the top five. California Asphalt Sprint car Association returning to Altamont after running 100 laps on the quarter mile in Carson City, came back and raced like they were on the freeway. Matt DeMartini of Antioch qualified fourth and finished third. Fremont’s Mark Monico was fourth. He won his heat and the Trophy Dash tonight, and Bryan Bullard from Granite Bay came in fifth. Unfortunately, this race ended under a red-checkered when Scott Clough, Larry Texeria and Allen Harney had some hard hits. Harney ended up taking a ride to the hospital but quipped as the Paramedic’s and the safety crew was extricating him from his sprint car to “Turn me around so I can see the score board.” The Groth Bros. Chevrolet Baby Grands were one of several divisions who ran wire to wire with no cautions. Just good quick racing tonight. Tracy’s Jeremy Wood had the lead by the fifth lap and was still there at the finish line. Write his name down, this young rookie is going someplace. He also continues to hold the points lead. Dave Tyler edged around dad Dave Figuerrido to take second. Mike Conti got by Figuerrido to come in third. Conti also had fast time. Figuerrido was fourth and Todd Christensen continues to in his rookie year to complete the top five. He holds fifth in the point race. Mini Super Trucks got all the strange happenings out of their way before running their main with no flags except the checkered. Two rookies had quite a time qualifying. Patterson’s Kevin Earp tried to knock a wall down and Dominic Lopez from San Lorenzo did a complete rollover. Both made it out for the main. Pleasanton’s Ron Pestana had the lead about midway and to the final flag. Ron Mardock who won his heat was second. Tracy’s David Burchett, Tom Moss of Redwood City and Walt Bruegger from Hayward rounded out the top five. The Mini Cup Jr. Star of the evening is Sarah Davis who travels from Hollister to compete in this series. Brentwood’s Doff Cooksey worked his way from the middle of the pack to come in Second. He is currently series point’s leader. Jacob Gomes from Manteca was third and captured his heat tonight.
