DAYTONA BEACH, Florida -- The NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Northwest Series pays a visit to Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Wash. on Saturday, June 26 and two teams will be making an appearance in the Puget Sound area on Friday, June 25.
Evergreen Speedway has a long history with the Northwest Series, as this will be the 55th time in 20 years that the series has raced at this venue.
Garrett Evans is the all-time leader in wins (13) and poles (16) at Evergreen, but Gary Lewis has had the most recent success with two victories and three second-place finishes since 2000. Lewis holds the track record in a 125-lap event by finishing in 55 minutes, 53 seconds with an average speed of 86.698 mph on April 7, 2001.
- NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Northwest Series driver Joe Benedetti from Auburn, Wash. is scheduled to make an appearance at the AutoZone store at 120 SW 148th Street in Burien, Wash. from 5:00-8:00 pm Friday evening. Benedetti is fresh off a second-place finish at the Pepsi 125 held on June 12 at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls, Idaho. He currently ranks ninth in the season point standings. “I’m very excited about the race after the good showing in Idaho. Also, I am looking forward to the AutoZone appearance. It’s a great chance to meet racing fans and thank AutoZone for their support of the series,” he said.
- Fellow series driver John Bender is also scheduled to appear at the same AutoZone location from 5:00-8:00 pm. Bender looks to improve on his disappointing showing in the Pepsi 125. The Snohomish, Wash.-based driver looks to translate his success from Evergreen Speedway’s 3/8-mile course to the 5/8-miler. Bender won the 2003 race on the shorter track. Bender is currently seventh in the championship point standings.
Each of the drivers will have his car and hauler on display so that fans can get an up close and personal look at the equipment used by these rising stars of NASCAR. Both drivers will be available to greet fans and sign autographs as well.
