LOOKING BACK AT TENINO:
- There have been five different winners in the first five races on the
Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series for the 2000 season.
- Lewis' podium finish moved him into second in the points race. He trails
Evans by 31 points.
- Eaton reestablished his own record as the oldest driver to win a series
event. He is 56 years and 9 months old.
- Eaton also broke the race record established last year by Joe Benedetti.
The race was slowed by just three cautions for 13 laps. The race time was 37
minutes, 11 seconds for an average speed of 67.167 mph.
TURNING TO WENATCHEE:
- Although this is his home track, and the one he owns, Garrett Evans has had
the least success at this track than any other oval the series runs at on a
regular basis. In 22 races, he has collected only four wins. A meager
number compared to the figures he sports at other tracks. That number is,
however, tied with Ron Eaton for most all-time at the facility.
- Evans won more Bud Poles at Wenatchee Valley's Super Oval than any other
track. He has seven. Kelly Tanner is second best with five Bud Pole Awards.
- It's not surprising that Tanner was crew chief for Ken Kaltschmidt last
year when Kaltschmidt claimed fast time.
- Every driver broke the old track record in qualifying last year at the
newly renovated facility. Look for even faster times this year as Hoosier
and Goodyear look to get their drivers in the show.
STAT OF THE WEEK:
- Evans, Eaton, Tanner and Gary Lewis are the only drivers with multiple wins
at Wenatchee Valley's Super Oval.
1999 IN REVIEW:
- Tom Pinkowsky, as a result of a four-car invert, started on the pole of
last year's race. He held all challengers at bay to collect his first
Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series win. Bud Pole winner Ken Kaltschmidt
rallied to finish second. Chris Hart, Pete Harding and Tom Sweatman rounded
out the top-five.
2000 Rookie-of-the-Year:
1. Matt Kelley 47
2. Gaylon Stewart 43
3. John Zaretzke 41
4. Steven Howard 37
5. Rod Schultz
6. Motohiro Nakaji
