PFALZGRAF WINS SUPER STOCK FEATURE AT EUNICE

Eunice, NM -- Tim Pfalzgraf from Hobbs grabbed the lead from veteran racer Bob Sikes on lap 2 and won the 20 lap main event for the super stocks Sunday afternoon as Cardinal Motor Speedway closed it's 2000 season with a three day special event. Pfalzgraf's win was worth $1,000 and Jim Breeding from Odessa, Texas was the $700 runnerup with Greg Jenkins wheeled his dirt late model bodied mount to a $500 third. Tim Pyle from Midland, Texas was unchallenged as he easily led all 20 laps of the street stock main event after also winning the preliminary feature on Saturday night. He also won $1,000 and Duron Anthony passed Wesley Crouch late in the race for the $700 runnerup slot. Crouch picked off $500 for third and Ken Imler was $300 fourth.

The front ten positions in the super stock A Main were determined by the finish of the preliminary main event on Saturday night. Sikes wheeled a team car to veteran Bud Evans to the Saturday night win to earn the pole for the rich feature. Sikes was originally disqualified in tech, but the officials rechecked the car and he passed. Breeding ran second ahead of Jenkins, Pfalzgraf, Aztec Speedway track champion Allen Bradley, Roy Compton, Tommy Kays, Kendall Brady, double division racer Imler and Aztec Speedway rookie of the year Jeff Graham. The remaining 11 cars were raced in a pair of B Mains on Sunday afternoon to set their order in the back half of the field. Walt Freeman won the first B Main over Roger Sisson. Evans easily won the second B Main over Scott Johnson.

Sikes led the first lap of the 20 lap A Main before he pushed high on lap 2 and fell back to third behind Pfalzgraf and Jenkins. The track doesn't use yellow flags instead throwing the red flag for each incident. Robert Cates stalled with a flat tire for the first red on lap 3. Cates' car had scored a $2,000 win the previous afternoon at Las Cruces with Larry Kayton driving. Brady spun out of fifth and was lapped by the leaders on the restart with Compton into fifth. Breeding had fallen back to fifth on the first lap, but climbed back to third on lap 5. Bradley moved into fifth on this restart, but drove to the pits on lap 8 to move 12th starting Evans into fifth. Jenkins lost second to Breeding before the red flag again fell on lap 13 when C L Adams and Freeman tangled. On lap 18, Breeding made a run at leader Pfalzgraf, but got into the left rear corner of the car hard. Pfalzgraf was able to drive through the incident and collect the win with Breeding second over Jenkins, Sikes, Evans, Kays, Adams and Sisson.

The top ten in the Saturday night street stock main also earned the front five rows of the Sunday feature. Pyle won this preliminary main over Imler, Crouch and an unidentified racer in #63. Brian Canady from Odessa, Texas won the B Main on Sunday to earn the 11th starting spot with Tim Smith second ahead of Mike Pool. This put Pyle on the pole for the 20 lap A Main and he quickly built a big lead over the field on Sunday. Crouch was able to get around Imler to take over 2nd. Anthony took third from Imler on lap 6 and the only red flag came out on lap 8. On the restart, fifth place Judy Compton slowed and dropped out as Smith took over fifth. Canady passed Smith for fifth on lap 14. Anthony got around Crouch for 2nd on lap 16. Pyle won easily over Anthony, Crouch, Imler, Canady, Smith, Kenny Seay and Jubal Sigert.
