DOUBLE FEATURE WIN NIGHT FOR BRANDON CARLEY

After winning the track IMCA Modified championship in 1999, Brandon Carley was just a part-time competitor in 2000 as he tried out the pavement racing at the new Albuquerque track. Saturday night, he showed he was back at Aztec Speedway in a big way by driving to a pair of feature wins. He won the makeup feature from April 21, then drove to another win in the regular main event. The double win effort lifted Carley to 7th in track points despite placing outside the top 15 in the other two races. Garland Tucker ran second in the makeup race and point leader Craig Nelson was second in the regular feature. C Nelson has built an early season 16 point lead with two seconds and a fourth in the four races. By combining a win in the makeup main for the IMCA Stock Cars with a second in the regular feature, Allen Bradley cut Michael Farley's point lead to just one point. Tim Hopper won the regular feature. Ralph Klemish had won the two previous races, but ran 6th and 22nd in tonight's features. The double feature format was the first main event action for the Bomber class in 2001 and Iley Jackson won both races. Steve Asbe placed second in both.

The IMCA Modifieds had a 41 car turnout on April 21 before the rain out and 46 raced in the regular show tonight. Carley's disappointing early season efforts placed him up front in the starting lineup for both features. He won the makeup race ahead of Tucker, IMCA Stock Car graduate Larry Cornell, C Nelson, Calvin Mathews, Aaron Spangler, Regan Tafoya and Derrell Bradford. In the regular feature, it was Carley again the winner in front of C Nelson, James Tabet, April 28 winner Garye Higgins, Jody Cornell, Jeff Davis, L Cornell, Tafoya and Richard Baldwin. C Nelson's point lead is 16 over Garye Higgins, who is just one point ahead of Kevin Brown. Tafoya is 23 points out of the point lead in fourth and just 3 points ahead of Greg Ryan.

There were 27 IMCA Stock Cars on the rainout night and 30 tonight. A Bradley won the makeup race over Ricky Heath, Michael Farley, Jeff Graham, Ryan Gilkey, Klemish, Melissa Farley, Robert Reed and Jesse Baldwin. Tim Hopper ran 10th in the makeup race, but won the regular feature with A Bradley second over Larry Bradley, Michael Farley, Graham, Heath, Leroy Hartsfield, Melissa Farley and Reed. Michael Farley holds a one point lead over A Bradley with Graham just 6 points behind the point leader. Klemish fell to 6th in points, 17 points back.

The Bombers had 15 cars on the rainout night and 16 tonight. Jackson won the first main ahead of S Asbe, Howard Asbe, Brandon Tenski, Leroy Barnhouse, Charles Johnston and Vince Chatley. In the second race, it was Jackson on top of S Asbe, Cody DeFrene, H Asbe, Johnston, Jeff Jennings and Randy Henley. Jackson holds just a two point lead over S Asbe and is 5 ahead of H Asbe.
