Lake Pleasant, AZ --

Dan Klinder turned an outside front row starting spot into a feature win for the open comp modifieds Saturday night at Canyon Raceway. Last week's winner Steve Simpson Jr from Kingman made a late charge to finish second ahead of Tony Miller. George Fronsman closed his Super Stock championship season with a win in the 20 lap point finale as Ron Funk ran second ahead of Andy Wheat. Randy Pope won the 15 lap pure stock feature ahead of Glen Stumm. It was Pope's sixth win of the season and rookie Bill Moore Jr won the point championship. It was a third straight championship for Moore as he won the mini stock title in both 1999 and 2000. Kim Scarborough won the 10 lap Lady Stock main event. Shirley Seaton used her third place finish to wrap up her first track title as she finished just two points ahead of Claire Stafford. Seaton and Stafford were tied for the point lead when the feature started.

Heat winners in the open comp modifieds were Northern California transplant Chris Olexiewicz and Lance Salo. Klinder started outside front row in the 20 lap feature and raced into the lead over Jeff Stafford. Brian Combs took over 2nd on lap 4. The lead trio of Klinder, Combs and Stafford were in lapped traffic by the midway mark. Combs made several runs at Klinder, but couldn't pull off a pass. Tony Miller took over third on lap 11. Three cautions slowed the action between lap 12 and lap 14, but the final six laps were run without a slowdown. Two laps from the end, Combs jumped the cushion to hand second to Miller. Simpson took second from Miller on lap 19 and finished there as Klinder won ahead of Simpson, Miller, Mark Fowler, Combs, Olexiewicz, Salo and Jason Noll.

The Super Stocks had a full 24 car grid. Heat wins went to Lonnie Foss, Ron Funk and Dave Erickson. The 20 lap feature was restarted after Kenny Robinette got into the front wall and had a fire on his car. Erickson raced into the lead over Funk and Fronsman. Erickson ran over the top of turn 2 to hand the lead to Funk. A three car tangle produced a lap 4 yellow flag with Funk leading Fronsman and Rick Mills. The field then raced to lap 17 without a yellow flag. Funk held off Fronsman until lap 12 when Fronsman got underneath him for the top spot. Debris forced a lap 17 yellow flag. Fronsman led the rest of the race to win over Funk, Wheat, Mills and Mark Harrison. Harrison had protected his Central Arizona Raceway street stock point lead with a 2nd place run there in the afternoon, then towed north to race at Canyon. Jeff Price finished sixth to gain his second place point finish. Doug Shadd and Craig Carrajat rounded out the top 8. Fronsman won the title by 41 points over Price with Steve Bender just 3 points ahead of Foss in the duel for third in points. Joe Sarginger rounded out the top five in points.

The pure stocks ran a four heat format with Jay Rode, champion Moore, Pope and Pete Gilmore getting the heat wins. Their 15 lap feature had just a single yellow flag. Glen Stumm raced into the lead over Darron Provost and Pope. Pope took second from Provost on lap 4, but couldn't get around Stumm until they took the white flag while working lapped traffic. Pope led just that final round for his sixth win. Stumm was second ahead of Rode, Gilmore, J R Hagan, Scott Reese and Danny Padilla. Moore won the championship by 41 points over Mike Huneycutt with Stumm third ahead of Pope and Rob Munoz.

Kim Scarborough returned to action with her win in the ten lap lady stock feature ahead of Ronda Gill, Seaton, Joanne Daye and Stafford. Seaton won the championship by just 2 points over Stafford with Stacey Carter third in points ahead of Gill and Daye.
