MATT LUNDY SECOND IN POINTS AFTER CASA GRANDE WIN

With the point season scheduled to end with the $1,000 to win special on Nov 24-25, Matt Lundy used his 15 lap feature win Sunday afternoon to move into second in points in the factory stocks at Central Arizona Raceway. Point champion Brian Barsness had another impressive run with a second place finish and Brandon Garner kept his hopes of claiming 2nd in points alive with a third place finish.

The factory stocks had a 19 car turnout including Canyon Raceway regular Ty Weidner and first time racer Chrissy Langston. Garner came from sixth to win the first heat over Ricky Cook. Gary Armes ran off the top of the track leading, Matt Forkner took the same wild ride while 2nd and Keith Wells spun out of second. Weidner was impressive in his win in heat 2 over pole starter M Lundy and Barsness.

In the 15 lap feature, Jim Hauver and Doug Guenther shared the front row with M Lundy starting 5th and Barsness 7th. Mike Newton was out on the first lap as Mike Tahtinen led one lap before M Lundy took over. Both Garner and Barsness got around Tahtinen on lap 5 for the 2-3 slots. The second yellow flag came on lap 10 as Weidner spun and Armes dropped out. Tahtinen dropped from contention as he ran off the top of the track and M Lundy fought off the challenges of Barsness, who passed Garner on the restart. Garner ran third over E J Jones, James West, R Lundy, Tahtinen and Guenther. M Lundy now leads his father R Lundy by 25 points and Garner by 28 in their three way duel for second in points behind Barsness. Newton has fifth all wrapped up.
