Chico, CA --
Chico's Matt Peacher made it two straight clean sweeps in the Open Outlaw Kart class Saturday afternoon on the unique Silver Dollar Speedway indoor concrete oval. For the second straight week, opening race winner Shawn Amos from Gridley was second in both heats and the feature to emerge with a five point lead over Mo Whitchurch in the early season standings. Justin Reinolds filled in for Sean Chambers in the Pro Box Stocks and scored a clean sweep in that class with a pair of heat wins and the feature victory. The afternoon performance pushed Chambers into the season point lead with a two point advantage over T J White, who won the first two weekends. Usual Red Bluff racer Kyle Larson, the rookie of the year at Cycleland, also joined the concrete action with a second place finish. Another Red Bluff and Cycleland regular Brian Southers was the feature winner for the Box Stocks and Larson capped a big afternoon with another second place finish.
The Open Outlaw Kart class again grew to 7 entries. Peacher won the first heat from 4th starting as Amos came from fifth to finish second ahead of Ryan Kaplan, who was also making his first Chico appearance of the season as he supports the Red Bluff action. The lineup for the second heat is inverted off the lineup of the first, but Peacher started right in the middle in fourth again and he won with Amos second ahead of pole starter David James. Peacher earned the pole for the main event with Amos alongside as Kaplan and James shared row 2. Peacher charged to the win ahead of Amos, Kaplan, Mo Whitchurch, James, Greg Mahon and Chris Scott in the 25 lap main event. Amos leads Whitchurch by 5 points as they are the only two racers to run in all three races. With two perfect weekends, Peacher has climbed into third in points.
The action in the Pro Box Stocks started early as Reinolds and Larson tangled in hot laps and Larson flipped wildily down the front stretch. While Larson had seperate karts for the Pro Box Stocks and Box Stocks, Southers elected to race his Box Stock in both classes. Reinolds won the first heat for the Pro Box Stocks from a front row start as Southers ran second over Shawn Barker. Reinolds came from fifth to win the second heat with pole starter Vinnie Violante second over Southers and Larson. Reinolds earned the pole for their 25 lap feature with Southers alongside as Violante and Barker shared row 2. Larson started sixth, but quickly charged into contention. Reinolds and Southers charged into the 1-2 slots with Larson into third. Larson made a daring outside pass on Southers and chased down leader Reinolds, but ran out of laps and settled for second. Southers was third over Michelle Argetsinger, Barker, Violante and former point leader T J White. With the great fill in job by Reinolds, Chambers emerged with a two point lead over White and 5 ahead of Violante. Argetsinger is fourth, 7 points behind the leader.
The Box Stocks had a season high 9 entries. Larson won the first heat from the pole with 4th starter Danny White second as Southers came from last starting for third. Southers then started on the pole for the second heat and won that with outside front row starter Spencer Rolfe second. D White was third and Larson came from last to finish fourth. The lineup for the feature put Southers and Larson in the front row with point leader D White and Rolfe in row 2. It was a rough 25 lapper with numerous tangles, but Southers posted the win and Larson finished 2nd. D White was third ahead of Jasper Fenton, Rolfe and R J Johnson. D White's point lead is 6 over Rolfe, 9 ahead of Ryan Anderson and 10 ahead of Fenton.
The racing will skip Thanksgiving weekend, but return to action on Dec 1.
