FEIL, DOSS AND AUSTIN SCORE BIG UKIAH WINS

Ukiah, CA --

Fast heat winner Scott Feil from Santa Rosa outraced last week's winner Jim Sozzoni and defending track champion Randy Houston to win Saturday night's UMCC Modified main event at Ukiah Speedway. Mike Doss won the late model feature ahead of Jim Stillman and Kevin Estep. Continuing to do a great job filling in for Rod Skidmore, Don Austin from Santa Rosa won the Bomber feature after earlier capturing both the fast dash and fast heat. He was followed in his feature win by Mike Silva and Sean Caturegli. After timing in second fast, Billy Stillman Jr scored wins in the dash, heat and feature for the I-4 Modified division. David Land III made his first appearance in the new pure stock class and he won both the heat race and feature with fast timer Tim Smith second.

The modified car count improved to 13 cars with former Lakeport champion Bill Binns joining the action. The battle for fast time honors was especially close with Victor Gonella's 13.347 leading the way. Houston had a 13.360, Binns a 13.367, Norm Boucher a 13.370 and Feil a 13.391. Binns won the dash over Houston and Boucher. Fifth fast Feil won the fast heat over Houston and Gonella. Ken Bush won slow heat honors over Richard Gustafson. Feil then won the A Main over 9th fast Sozzoni, Houston, Bill Shura, Gustafson, Gonella, Freedom Hawthorne and Binns.

Doss was the quickest of the 11 late models with his 13.490 lap. Andy Layton ran a 13.705, Jeremy Hopkins a 13.716, Joedy Admiral a 13.758, David Lancaster a 13.767 and Stillman a 13.768. Lancaster won the dash over Hopkins. Hopkins took the fast heat ahead of Stillman and Doss. Mike Swaney beat Layton and Frank Howard in the slow heat. Howard had to be transported to the hospital after an incident, but the veteran driver was unhurt. Doss took the feature honors ahead of Stillman, Estep, Hopkins, Pascual Puertolas and Layton.

There were 23 bombers racing. The first car to time, Rick Tellstrom, edged out the second car to run David Land Sr for fast time honors. Tellstrom had a 15.205 lap and Land Sr a 15.210. Nick Ioimo had a 15.344 and Austin a 15.462. Austin won the fast dash over Land Sr. A special slow dash went to John Hawthorne over Wendy Hinton. Heat winners were Austin, Caturegli and Wayne Johnson. Peggy Hawthorne won the B Main over J Hawthorne and Anja Allen. Austin was chased to his A Main win by Silva, Caturegli, Ray Strain, Tellstrom, Darren Wilson and Tim Grayson.

Jason Durm's 14.560 lap edged out Stillman Jr for I-4 Modified fast time honors as Stillman ran a 14.635 lap. Stillman won the dash over Durm and he edged out Beth Howard in the heat race. Stillman and Durm ran 1-2 in the feature. The Pure Stock field grew to 3 cars. Tim Smith ran a 17.381 lap easily take fast time honors over the 18.113 of Land III. Smith beat Land III in the dash. Land III then won the heat over Smith and Nathan Monlux and the feature had the exact same finishing order.
