Lake Pleasant, Az --

Taking advantage of a last lap bobble by leader Wayne Noyes, veteran Jerry Fincher posted his first 25 lap feature win with the traveling Southwest Dirt Late Models Saturday night at Canyon Raceway. W Noyes settled for second and Randy Anderson bounced back from two hard crashes to finish third. In a thrilling fight with Kenny Gill, Robin Boomgaarden won the 20 lap super stock main event. Gill ran second over Steve Bender. The mini sprints ran unwinged for this show and Dustin Cormany won the 20 lap feature. It was his first ever Canyon win and Terry Palmer ran second.

Racing for a fourth consecutive weekend on their busy early season schedule, the dirt late models had a 14 car field. Steve Ricehouse saw his night end in hot laps. Mike Tahtinen won the first heat race ahead of defending series champion Adam Crippen and Lonnie Parker Jr. W Noyes took heat 2 ahead of Anderson and his son Keith Noyes. The 25 lap feature was a crashfest as the cars were all out of control on the hooked up 3/8 mile clay oval and a series of crashes altered the standings. W Noyes led the opening lap, but gave way to A Crippen's new Rocket on lap 2. K Noyes blasted to the front, passing A Crippen on lap 5 with Parker Jr riding in third. On lap 7, W Noyes and K Noyes tangled. W Noyes was placed back into the lead with K Noyes penalized to the rear for the restart. Just before midway, Tahtinen got around A Crippen for second behind W Noyes. A three car tangle slowed the race on lap 16. At that point, W Noyes led Tahitnen and Fincher. Fincher passed Tahtinen for second on lap 18 and was happy to be riding behind leader W Noyes at the white flag. On that final lap, leader W Noyes got out of shape in turn 1 and gave up the top spot to Fincher. Only six cars saw the checkered flag as Fincher won ahead of W Noyes, Anderson, Tahtinen, Bobby Burrows and Dennis Crippen.

Super Stock heat wins went to Bender and Gill. Boomgaarden started on the front row for their 20 lap feature and he raced into the lead. At the end of the first lap, Gill was riding second ahead of Bender. Dan Pike spun for the first yellow flag. Point leader George Fronsman was riding in fourth, but he gave that spot up to Scott Keniston on lap 12. Fronsman quickly regained fourth and both Adam Wing and Lucas Loving stalled to force a lap 14 yellow flag. Gill and Boomgaarden waged a six lap side by side duel for the win. Gill nosed ahead at the white flag, but Boomgaarden regained the top spot on that final round for the win. Bender ran third over Fronsman, Keniston, Joe Sarginger, Don Costa and Jeff Price.

Jeff Greszler won the mini sprint dash and heat wins went to Mark Stroh, Duane Adams and Palmer. Rick Alexander led the first lap of their 20 lapper, but Cormany took over on lap 2. Kevin Wolfet stalled on the front stretch for a yellow flag. At lap 5, Alexander ran second ahead of Palmer. Two more yellows slowed the first ten laps of the race, but the final ten laps ran without a caution. Cormany held off Palmer for his first Canyon win with Greszler third over Charles Mokry, Duane Adams, Stroh and Dennis Parks.
