NEAR SWEEP FOR BILL PEARSON AT LASSEN SPEEDWAY

Susanville, CA --

A top dirt late model racer for years, Bill Pearson from Reno, NV purchased a dirt modified in 2001 in order to race more often close to home and he enjoyed success at both Fernley, NV and Susanville. He still splits his time between the two classes and Saturday night, he skipped a scheduled late model trip to Hanford, CA and scored a near clean sweep at Lassen Speedway. He especially enjoys racing in Susanville as his young son can race his outlaw kart at the same time. Wheeling a Jet Mod modified, Pearson won both the dash and feature after placing second behind Charlie Schuck Jr in the heat race. John Sloan finished second and cut Jeff Chew's point lead to just 2 points as Chew ran third. Scott Foreman won the stock car feature ahead of Bill Adkins and Steve Goss. Point leader Jay Evans won both the heat and dash, but was fourth in the main event. The mini stock class made their 2002 season debut and the Costa family split the honors. Dawn Costa won the feature after Joanna Costa took the heat and Cristy Costa won the dash.

The dirt modifieds had an 8 car turnout and Schuck won the heat race ahead of Pearson and Boyd Murchison. Pearson then beat Schuck in the dash. In the feature, it was Pearson again on top of Sloan, Chew, Will Zinn, Murchison and Matt Murphy. Zinn is now tied for second in points with Sloan, just two points back of Chew. Schuck is fourth, 5 points out of the point lead. The Stock Cars also had an 8 car turnout. Evans won the heat race over Pat Lunsford and Foreman. Evans then beat Foreman and Lunsford in the dash, but he could only mange a 4th in the feature as former champion Foreman won ahead of Adkins and Goss. Keith Crosby was fifth ahead of Tom Caniff. With strong runs all three nights, Evans holds a 21 point lead on Goss and is 22 ahead of Crosby.

Josh Richards was the only mini stock that was ready for competition at the previous race, but he had four other cars to race this week. J Costa won the heat race over D Costa and C Costa, but she broke in the process and was done for the night. C Costa then beat Reynolds in the dash and the third portion of the Costa team, D Costa was the feature winner ahead of Reynolds, Richards and C Costa. With his show up points for the previous race, Richards is the point leader by 65 over D Costa.
