Albuquerque, NM -- The Arizona SCOA Winged 410 Sprint Cars traveled to Duke City Raceway for two nights of racing and the wins were earned by defending series champion Rickey Hood and Las Cruces, NM charger Danny Williams. Fast timer Hood was chased to his Friday night win by El Pasos Mike Archuleta and former World of Outlaws racer Dion Hindi. Williams had a tough night on Friday night, but rebounded to pace all 25 laps in his Saturday night win. Hood settled for second with Hindi gaining his second straight third of the weekend. Rick Ziehl skipped the Friday night show to score a win at El Paso Speedway Park, but ran a strong fourth on Saturday night.
Hood paced a strong field in Friday night's time trials. Hindi won the dash over Hood and Paul Norbury. Each of the four heat races transferred four drivers into the 25 lap feature and Zeke Ziska won the first heat over Hood, Jimmy Norman and ageless Sonny Holden. Williams did win heat 2 over female ace Kaylene Verville and Albuquerques own Bud Goodwin. Dan Appel won heat 3 over Archuleta and Buddy Rae Earle. Returning from a couple years absence from action, Gary Bradley won heat 4 with Hindi second over Steve Cushman. Jeff Branaman captured the B Main ahead of James High, Scott Box and Tim West. After timing into the dash, Norbury couldnt make the transfer out of the B Main. Williams was last in the 25 car feature as Hood outraced Archuleta, Hindi, Cushman, Holden, Goodwin, Verville, Mike Rux Jr, Jeff Wheeler, Box and Appel.
On Saturday night, Ziska was fast timer with a 16.734 clocking. Hood won the dash over Jesse Baker and Ziska. Jimmy Norman won the first heat over Goodwin and West. Marty Wilcox won the second heat over Branaman and Wheeler. Hood took heat 3 with Box second over Hindi. Williams won his heat for the second straight night with Nick Rael second over Robert Hall. After a second place run on Friday night, Archuleta had to win the B Main to transfer with Baker second over Holden and Jeff Slinkard. Williams led all 25 laps and fought off Hood for the feature victory as Ziehl ran third over Wilcox, Branaman, Box, Cushman, Archuleta, Ziska and Norman.
The teams will again tow to New Mexico for two nights of racing to close June with consecutive events at The Speedway of Southern New Mexico in Las Cruces on June 28-29.
