Ventura, CA --

Ed Perry led all 20 laps of Wednesday night’s street stock main event at Ventura Raceway, but was disqualified in post race tech and point leader Craig Germanetti emerged with the win in the special Ventura County Fair opening night action. Marty Highland finished second ahead of John Uccellini. Gaining the top spot when leaders Mark Fullerton and William Kruft tangled on lap 12, Ken Haley led the final 9 laps to win the 20 lap pony stock main event. Point leader M Fullerton charged back through the pack to finish third behind Dario Scafidi.

The street stocks had a 16 car field and Perry won the first heat from 4th starting with former division star Randy McGraw stepping back from the IMCA Modifieds to finish second. Tom Stephens also started 4th in his heat win with Will Smith second. The top 8 in points were inverted at the front of their feature lineup, putting Perry and Stephens on the front row. Perry raced into the lead over Stephens and Wayne Heurung. Heurung spun on lap 3 to give third to Randy Miller. The first yellow came on lap 6 when Ernie Malone and Steven Suchowirsky tangled. The third yellow came on lap 10 when a spun Greg Rapp was hit hard by Harvey Jones. A badly smoking Scott Dinger was blackflagged from the action and Germanetti took fourth from Highland on lap 15. Jones dropped out after spinning for a lap 16 yellow flag. A spinning Malone was hit hard by Smith for the final caution on lap 16. Second place Stephens broke on this caution and Germanetti made short work of Miller to gain second on lap 18. Miller then spun and Perry was well in front at the checkered flag. When Perry failed post race tech, Germanetti gained the win ahead of Highland, Uccellini, Miller, Ken Gosnell and McGraw.

The popular pony stocks brought a 27 car field, forcing four heats and a B Main to set the 20 car main event field. Heat winners were James Brown, previous race feature winner Rick Engel, William Kruft and Dave Revard. Brown was wheeling a former Mike Weigel Santa Maria four banger. SCRA sprint car regulars Ricky Gaunt and Rodney Argo both had pony stock rides, but neither transferred through the intense heat action. In the B Main, veteran Frank Woodward won with Argo third behind Julie Masters. Gaunt’s night ended as he failed to transfer with a sixth.

In the 20 lap main for the pony stocks, Brown raced into the lead over Kruft and Revard. Jack Fullerton was up to third in six laps and Revard threw a wheel for a yellow flag. Leader Brown was sent off the track with a fuel leak. Kruft inherited the lead and J Fullerton spun out of second. Point leader M Fullerton came from 14th starting to second in 8 laps as Haley settled into third. Dario Scafidi gained fourth on a lap 10 restart and the race complexion changed on lap 12. M Fullerton had driven underneath Kruft in turn 3, but Kruft then spun M Fullerton. Both were sent to the rear for the restart and Haley emerged as the leader. Woodward was now second, but lost that spot to Scafidi on lap 14. Haley led the remaining laps with Scafidi second and M Fullerton gained third when Woodward went on a final lap infield excursion. Woodward salvaged a fourth ahead of Jon Everhart, Devitt Jones, Cliff Ashlock and Darren Gunnell, the leading rookie in the track point listing.
