San Felipe Pueblo, NM -- Veteran Bo Baker from Grants NM won his second straight 25 lap NMMRA unwinged sprint car feature Saturday night as the traveling series returned to Hollywood Hills Speedway. The victory improved his point lead to a large 31 points over Steve Nix. Baker led just the final 4 laps after passing Robert Marfia Jr from Rio Rancho. Marfia Jr hung on for second ahead of Chris Faber with Nix running 4th. The hobby stocks joined the sprint car show and J R Bonesteel won the 20 lap feature ahead of heat winner Randy Carter and his father Steve Bonesteel.
The unwinged sprint cars fielded 17 cars. Rookie Jeff Brumfield Jr won the Leavitt Group Dash for Cash ahead of Tim Jones and Kevin Faber. Jones won the first heat from the pole ahead of Russ Hein and Kristy Smith. Marfia Jr came from fifth to win the second heat ahead of 4th starter C Faber. Nix won heat 3 from fifth with pole starter Larry Stoerkel second. Tom Ball was the only feature scratch. Marfia paced the 25 lap main event from lap 5 after starting fifth. Coming from 13th, Baker passed Marfia Jr for the lead on lap 22 and won. His June 21st win came at Duke City Raceway. Marfia Jr ran second ahead of C Faber, Nix, last year’s rookie of the year Kelly Denison, Stoerkel, Hein and K Faber. Baker had 89 points compared the 58 of Nix and Bobby Seals at 52. Next action for NMMRA is July 12th back at Duke City Raceway.
Carter beat S Bonesteel in the hobby stock heat race and the main event saw J R Bonesteel winning ahead of Carter, S Bonesteel, Jennifer Bertetto and Ron Leathem Sr.
