MIKE THOMAS AND DOUG NUNES WIN LEMOORE FEATURE RACES

On the weekend in between their own Palace Indian Casino Nationals and the Outlaw Nationals at nearby Plaza Park Raceway, car counts were down at Lemoore Raceway but the action was still intense. Veteran racer Mike Thomas from Porterville won the modified mini sprint 600 feature ahead of Roger Rose. Doug Nunes beat veteran Bobby Snow in the stock mini sprint 600 main event and Robby Josett outraced both Michael Faccinto and Justyne Hamblin in the restricted mini sprint 600 main event. Runaway point leader Duane Soares had a clean sweep in the modified midget 250 action with a pair of heat wins and the main event triumph. Mitchell Faccinto had a near perfect night in the junior sprint action with a feature win following a win and a second in the heat race action.

This year, Lemoore has implemented a two heat race format. The first heat race is straight up off the draw and the second completely inverted from the draw. The drivers with the best combined performance in the heat races start in the front of the main event grids. The modified mini sprint 600's had only a four car turnout with Thomas and Rose trading 1-2 finishes in the two heat races. In the main event, Thomas beat Rose and Todd Hirasuna as Brandon Johnson failed to finish. The stock mini sprint 600's fielded 11 cars and Snow had the best heat race performance with a pair of wins. Nunes combined a win and a third while no other driver had a combined finish total of less than six. Skip Sisson was a main event scratch and only five of the ten starters survived to see the checkered flag in this action. Nunes won the main event ahead of Snow, Kelin Fipps, Jake Hagopian and Sid Smyth.

In the restricted mini sprint 600 action, division dominators Michael Faccinto and Justyne Hamblin both combined a win and a second in their two heat races to earn the front row for the main event. Josett had a win and a fourth while Cory Eliason had a pair of third place finishes. Josett impressed by driving to the main event win ahead of Faccinto, Hamblin and Richard VanderWeerd. Nine of the ten starters finished with Jace VanderWeerd fifth ahead of Eliason and Jenna VanderWeerd. The modified midget 250 class fielded just 3 cars and the finishing order of Soares, Gloria Shaw and Brandon Davis was repeated in both heats and the main event. The dozen junior sprints were the largest of the five divisions. Both Mitchell Faccinto and Britney Turner combined a win and a second in their heat races. Shane Myhre had a first and a fourth while both Dalton Silva and Mark Cypert combined a pair of thirds. Trent Carter was a main event scratch and Mitchell Faccinto won the main event ahead of Myhre, Silva, Turner, Britney Snow, Carson Macedo and Dustin Rhodes. Both Cypert and Cody Key failed to finish.
