Oildale, CA --

Taking the lead from Lloyd Reed on lap 3, Darrell Hood raced to his fourth 25 lap super street stock feature win Saturday night at Bakersfield Speedway Park. The win paid $500 and he moved past Lonnie Welch into the track point lead in the process. D Hood was quick to thank the setup work that wife Lisa Hood does on his super street stock. Reed ran second to stay within 8 points of the point leader and Dave Bauer placed third. Teenager Robby Sawyer made it three straight wins and four overall with his 20 lap triumph in the hobby stocks. Third starter Sawyer took the lead on lap 5 and he led Devan Jones at the checkered flag. Mike Wilson made a late move around Robert Sanders to place third. The American Stocks were down to 8 cars and point leader Mark Hogue won for the fifth time. He took the lead from Jesse Bowles on lap 9 and led Christine Carl from Buttonwillow at the checkered flag. Carl was shooting a clean sweep as she had won the dash and heat action. Hogue's point lead is 48 points over Rose Tyack.

The super street stock count improved to ten cars, but both Steve Noland and Royce Patterson saw their nights end in hot laps. Incoming point leader Lonnie Welch won his heat race, but strained his engine in the process and he joined the feature scratch listing. Bauer beat Welch in the dash. Bauer also won the first heat from the pole with Tim Bewley coming from 4th to nip Hood for second. Welch beat Reed and Randy Schweitzer in heat 2. This left 7 starters for the 25 lap main event with Bauer and Reed on the front row ahead of Hood and Bewley. Reed led Bauer on the opening lap, but Hood got underneath Bauer for second on lap 2. Hood took the lead from Reed on lap 3 and Bauer was back to second on lap 4. Bewley grabbed fourth from Karl Noland Jr and Schweitzer pitted from fifth. Reed used an inside pass to retake second from Bauer on lap 13 and debris forced the only yellow flag on lap 17. Hood won easily ahead of Reed, Bauer, Bewley and Jason McElroy. Hood is four points ahead of Welch and 8 in front of Reed. Bauer still has track title hopes as he stands just 18 points back of the point leader.

The hobby stocks fielded 20 cars and Sawyer showed his strength early as he came from 4th starting to win the dash ahead of Tom Klamorick. Heat winners were fourth starting Chad Johnson, pole starter Wilson and fourth starter Richie McGowan, the point leader. The main event had 20 starters as Jeremiah VanScoy, Ricky Spincer and Jacky Wood all scratched. Driving the Lou Wolfe car, Eric Cimental paced the first four laps. The yellow flew on lap 1 as McGowan got into the fence and Klamorick had to pit with a flat tire. Sawyer took third from Wilson on lap 2 and gained second when runnerup C Johnson got into the fence on lap 4. After a brief side by side duel with E Cimental, Sawyer used his inside groove run to take the lead on lap 5. Mike Lee stalled for a lap 9 caution with Sawyer leading E Cimental, Bruce Johnson and Wilson. Wes Scott broke an axle for the last yellow flag on lap 11 and Jones raced into second on lap 13. Running for the first time since his car was heavily damaged in the George Steitz Freedom Series race at Chowchilla on July 3, B Johnson pitted with four laps to run. Sawyer won ahead of Jones, Wilson, Robert Sanders, Eric Olson, David West and McGowan. McGowan has built his point lead to 32 points over Lee and 54 ahead of Zach Forster. Klamorick is 66 points back of the leader in fourth and Sawyer's winning streak has placed him solidly in fifth.

Carl edged out boyfriend Bowles in the American Stock dash and she won the heat race with fellow front row starter Bowles second. Steve McKinley scratched to leave a five car heat, but two more cars joined the action for the 20 lap feature. Outside front row starter Bowles paced the first 8 laps. Hogue took second from Carl on lap 2 and raced around Bowles for the lead on lap 9. Carl gained second on lap 13 and Rose Tyack drove by Bowles for third on lap 15. Bowles pitted as Hogue won ahead of the female trio of Carl, Tyack and Amy Hedden. Hogue's point lead is 48 points over Tyack and 120 ahead of Bowles. Carl is just 10 points back of Bowles and just 14 ahead of S McKinley.
