CHAD BURNS AND CHRIS LANEY WIN IN PERRIS

Perris, CA -- Defending track champion Chad Burns kept alive his track title hopes by winning Saturday nights super stock main event at Perris Auto Speedway. He only made a small cut into Terry Hershbergers point lead as the red hot Hershberger ran second to stay 22 points ahead in the title fight. Everett Burns, the father of the race winner, ran third and climbed into third in points as Dana Higgins dropped to 4th place after a 17th place run. The figure 8 class returned and Chris Laney was the main event winner as he edged out Earl Cox Sr. The 64 year old Cox Sr had scored two $1000 wins during the Ventura County Fair the previous week. Tom Smith won the street stock race to cut Henry Wesolowski Srs point lead down to 11 points. Weslowski Sr ran second ahead of Jim Pierce and Chris Funkhouser. The 9 car Hornet field found M H Snider the main event winner ahead of Ryan Black and Rich Smith. The team of Larry and Chris Goodman beat runaway point leaders Tom Lagman and Rich Barr in the Cruiser feature.

The 18 car super stock field again included Imperial regulars Aaron and Lance Mari. C Burns won the feature race ahead of Hershberger, E Burns, Eddie Lagor, James Scott, Tim Shadduck, Joe Falduto, Scott Meese, L Mari and Mark Yarbrough. E Burns is 6 points back of son C Burns and just 3 ahead of Higgins. Mike Hixson ran 12th and is 34 points out of the point lead, 2 ahead of Scott. The figure 8 feature had 12 starters and Laney won ahead of Cox Sr, point leader Tom Smith, Chris Williamson, Jim Rook, Bob Legendre, Pat Baker and Mark Bandelin. Smiths point lead is four over Cox Sr with Laney another 7 points back in third. Rook is just a single point behind Laney and one ahead of Steve Cook.

Snider was chased to his Hornet win by Black, Smith, Cody Flickerstein, point leader Rhonda Everhart, Irwin Marquardt and Bobby Kinbrough. Stan Youngblood ran 8th and dropped 11 points back of Everhart. He is just 2 points ahead of Marquardt and four in front of Smith. Snider climbed to fifth in points, 22 behind the leader. The Goodman team beat Lagman and Barr in the Cruiser feature with Lloyd Glenore and Don Brodine in third ahead of Daniel and Dave Rhodes. James Ramsey and Dennis Allen were fifth ahead of Mike and Tom Read.

The super stocks, street stocks and cruisers return on August 30 in a six division night with the Ford Focus Midgets, dwarf cars and champ trucks. The figure 8 and hornet classes do not return until Sept 27.
