Aztec, NM -- After a rainout and a scheduled off week, action resumed at Aztec Speedway on Saturday night, but only after a two hour rain delay during the heat race action. Aaron Spangler from Dove Creek CO won for the 8th time from 10th starting in the Barnetts Harley Davidson dirt modified 30 lap feature. The victory virtually wrapped up the track title as Spangler now holds a 60 point lead with closest rival Craig Nelson sitting out this weeks action after injuring his back. Spangler also won an IMCA Modified feature Friday night in Cortez CO. He is also in position to take over the rich Barnetts Harley Davidson Series point lead when he makes two more starts. That standing compares your top 20 finishers and Spangler has accumulated 661 points in 18 starts. The current leaders Johnny Scott and Royal Jones have 717 points in their best 20 efforts. Spangler was chased to tonights win by B Main winner Eddie Farley, who battled from 16th starting. J J Harpole ran third. Allen Bradley continued down the road to defending his IMCA Stock Car track title as he charged from 19th starting to win his fifth 25 lap feature of the year. He is now 45 points in front of Tim Hopper. Greg Ruybalid had his best finish of 2003 with a second ahead of Scotty Beasley. Nick Nelson won his second mini stock main event of the year with Dian Sivers second ahead of David Benson. Point leader Steven McDaniel ran 12th and saw his lead shrink to 23 points over 4th place finisher Zeke Sivers. Jeff Jennings made it two straight wins and four overall in the hobby stock action. He climbed into fourth in points as Dereck Rhoden ran second ahead of visitor Bobby Devata.

The dirt modifieds fielded over 30 cars so they used five heats and a B Main to determine the 24 car A Main grid. Heat winners were Larry Cornell, Dulane Colcleasure, Chris Vivolo, Lee Moss and Spangler. Farley won the B Main ahead of Garrett Higgins, Jeff Davis, James Tabet and Kevin Brown. Spangler charged from 10th starting to win his third straight Aztec main event. Farley came from 16th to place second over early leader Harpole, who started 6th. Higgins came from 17th to place fourth in a second Burson car with Chad Burson getting his first top five in the teams main mount. It was a big weekend for the Burson clan as their cousin Danny Burson had a great NASCAR Southwest Series performance in Denver CO. K Brown charged from 20th to sixth and Derek Neil stormed from 23rd to finish 7th. With his own car still sidelined, Danny Bradford returned to action in the Brandon Carley car and ran 21st.

When 28 IMCA Stock Cars appeared, the track elected to start them all in the 25 lap main event without running a B Main. Heat winners were Leroy Hartsfield, Ted Boettler, Ray Hollingsworth and Jerald Wright. A Bradley was fifth in his heat, forcing him to come from the 10th row for his fifth win. Third starter Ruybalid ran second with 11th starting Beasley making a late charge to third. Hartsfield ran 4th from the pole with Friday night Cortez runnerup Rex Higgins in fifth. Frank Powell Jr was sixth ahead of Wright, Bill Cochran and Boettler. A Bradleys point lead is 45 over Hopper with Daniel Christensen another 9 points back in third. Beasley has climbed to fourth, six points back of Christensen and just two ahead of Melissa Farley.

The mini stocks split their 15 cars into a pair of heat races. N Nelson won the first over Gary Linker while T J Morrow beat Z Sivers in the second heat. McDaniel had a tough night with a fifth in his heat and the 12th place feature run. N Nelson won from third starting ahead of 4th starter D Sivers. David Benson was third ahead of Z Sivers, Amanda Auckland, Morrow and Zach Rouse. McDaniel ended the night 23 points ahead of Z Sivers with Rouse another 32 points back in third. D Sivers advanced to fourth, just one point ahead of Daniel Nelson III and two in front of Morrow. The Bomber class split 14 cars into two heats. Rhoden won heat 1 over point leader Howard Asbe. Jennings won heat 2 ahead of Leroy Barnhouse. In the feature, sixth starting Jennings won ahead of pole starter Rhoden, 10th starter Devata, Barnhouse, Ed Mangum, Steve Asbe, Ronald Mangum and point leader H Asbe. H Asbes point lead is 36 over E Mangum, 44 ahead of last place finisher Rusty Estes and 62 in front of Jennings.
