CHARLIE PRICE WINS SECOND FEATURE

San Bernardino, CA -- Fifth ranked Charlie Price from Redlands won his 2nd NASCAR late model 50 lap feature of the 2003 season Saturday night at Orange Show Speedway. Frankie Gould from Woodland Hills ran second and improved his point lead to 26 points in the process. Chris Hayes finished third in the 13 car feature. Brian Jones from Chatsworth won his first 25 lap street stock main. Jones is 4th in points and the race marked the third straight second place finish for point leader Johnny Russo. Russo has six wins and five seconds in 11 races in 2003. Fast Jason Estes from Hemet won his second 35 lap Pure Stock main event, but the incredibly tight track title fight moved into a tie when Brian Malone ran 2nd and John Mattie finished 4th. They are tied just six points ahead of third place finisher Justin Good. Michelle Rouse races in both the regular pure stocks and the lady pure stocks and she won for the third time in the Lady division as she was chased in that 30 lapper by point leaer Deanna Betzer and fast timer Stacy Mechum. The Sport Compact class appeared with 15 cars and runaway point leader David Braden won the 40 lapper for just his second win. The incredibly consistent Braden has two wins, five seconds and a third in 8 appearances. Perris point leader Rhonda Everhart and Rick Hinkle were 2-3 in the feature. Part time racer Glenn Duffin from Temple City won the 30 lap Sport Truck feature to give him three wins in just 6 starts in 2003. Point leader Jim Rawlings ran second ahead of point runnerup Jeffrey Jones.

With top runners Ken Sapper and Gary Tamborelli both missing from action, Wade Riddering was quick timer in the 13 car late model field at 13.754 seconds on the quarter mile paved oval. The top six finishers in the 50 lapper finished lead lap with Price winning ahead of Gould, Hayes, Robbie Hewitt, Lou Gamache and Scott Rueschenberg. Point runnerup Eddie Secord, Greg Beresford and third ranked Mark Shackleford were all one lap down. Shackleford climbed into a tie with the absent Sapper, 16 points back of Secord. Recent winner Gerald Lair finished just 7 laps and Riddering was out after 30 laps. Russo did pace the 11 street stocks with a 14.89 lap. Coke Frederick won the lone heat race ahead of Jones and Steve Smith, but was a main event scratch. Jones won the 25 lap feature ahead of Russo, Ruben Duran, Brandon James and Walt Kelly. Double division racer Blake Usilton was a lap down in sixth ahead of fellow pure stock racer Justin Good. Russos point lead is 146 ahead of 9th place finisher Steve Smith.

Estes was quickest of the 16 pure stocks with a 16.102 clocking. Jimmy Rouse beat Ryan Spencer in heat 1 and Good outraced Malone in heat 2. The 35 lap main saw the top 13 finishers on the lead lap and 14th place was just one lap down. Estes won ahead of Malone, Good, Mattie, Bill Bartelson, J Rouse, Johnny Betzer and M Rouse. Usilton ran 11th and fell 26 points behind the co-point leaders in 4th, just 4 points ahead of J Rouse. The quick Mechum paced the 7 Lady Pure Stocks with her 16.423 lap. M Rouse won the dash ahead of Betzer and beat the Riverside racer in the 30 lap feature also. Mechum was third ahead of Kim Unruh, Christine Good and Patty Pfouts with all six on the lead lap. Allison Pettygrove fell out after six laps. Tony Thompson from Lake Forest was quickest of the 15 sport compacts with his 16.776 run. Art Ramirez beat point runnerup Glenn Carr in heat 1 and Thompson won heat 2 ahead of Braden and Brandon Walton. Only the top four finishers were lead lap in the quickly run 40 lap feature. Braden won ahead of Everhart, Rick Hinkle and Danny Gutierrez. The next six were one lap down with Richard Moore in fifth ahead of Walton, Carr and Ramirez. Carr is 60 points back of Braden and just 2 ahead of 14th place finisher Stan Youngblood. Walton closed to within six points of Carr. Point leader Rawlings was the quickest of the 6 sport trucks with his 16.579 lap. Duffin beat Bruce Copeland and Rawlings in the heat race. Duffin then won the 30 lap feature over Rawlings, Jones and Roberto Calvera. All four were lead lap with Jim Belter out after 22 laps. Karl Roth was out on lap 3.
