RYAN KAPLAN RETURNS TO KART ROOTS WITH FEATURE WIN

Chico, CA -- Having turned heads throughout the west with his strong USAC Ford Focus Midget runs on both pavement and dirt this year, Chicos Ryan Kaplan returned to his outlaw kart roots Saturday night and won the Open Outlaw Kart 20 lap A Main from the pole as he outraced fellow front row starter Daniel Becker for the feature honors. Third starting David Fowler ran third in the high speed 23 kart feature on the tight confines of Cycleland Speedway. All of the divisions had large kart counts as the teams tuned up for the QRC All Star Tour Series race that will be run at the track on Monday, Sept 1. The Open Intermediate Main also saw the front row starters dueling for the win with Anthony Orgain beating previous week winner Taylor Simas. The 125 Intermediate 20 lap A Main saw the winner come from the 2nd row as Brentwoods Dillon Aldred won ahead of pole starter Michelle Argetsinger and outside front row starter Bradley Terrell. With Pro Box Stock dominator Cole Peard on vacation, he asked Thomas Bruckenstein, the driver that they bought their kart from, to fill in. Bruckenstein, the Chico Indoor champion, set second fast time and raced to wins in both the dash and 20 lap feature with Jacob Miller second in the main event ahead of Tyler Reddick. Brad Patchen took the Box Stock A Main win from fifth starting as front row starter Pete Cartwright settled for 2nd ahead of dash winner Aaron Bundy.

The Open Outlaws put 48 karts in the pit area and Chad Widener nipped Brian McCain for fast time honors. Widener ran a 11.078 and B McCain an 11.081. Tyler McCain was third quick at 11.132 and Quintin Cyre had an 11.138. Fifth quick Sean Becker won the dash ahead of T McCain and Tyler Schaaf. The top 3 from each of the four heats join the six dash karts in the feature grid. Kaplan timed in 7th quick and earned the pole for the feature with his heat one win over R C Smith. D Becker earned outside front row by outracing Robbie Whitchurch in heat 2 and Fowler won heat 3 ahead of Robbie Berge, who was earning points for Jaime Becker. Pete Johnston and Kyle Hirst were 1-2 in heat 4. That leaves four transfer spots available out of a 18 kart B Main. Michael Helwig won the B Main ahead of Brian Boswell and Michael Tarter. Jacob Spath grabbed the final transfer slot from Brandon Aldred and Tyler Spath. T Spath drove through the field after winning the C Main in front of M Tarter and Ted Cammon. M Tarter put on a great passing display by finishing 3rd in the B Main after placing 2nd in the C Main. He continued that action in the A Main as he came from 21st starting to run 6th in the 20 lapper. Kaplan won the A Main ahead of fellow front row starter D Becker and 3rd starting Fowler. T McCain came from 10th to finish 4th and S Becker settled for fifth ahead of M Tarter, Crye, Johnston, Zack Mason, Berge and B McCain.

Justin Reinolds paced 21 Open Intermediates in time trials with his 11.439 run. That easily paced the 11.737 posted by Richard Bailey and the 11.757 of Tyler Ritcheson. Fifth quick Brett Miller won the dash in front of Reinolds and A J Kerns. Orgain won the pole for the main event by beating Reyna Krueger in heat 1 and Simas earned front row outside by winning heat 2 over Austin Kerns. Bailey was the first kart to fall out of the feature as Orgain beat fellow front row starter Simas for the win. Krueger ran third ahead of Adam Main, Cody Braund, Jessica Helberg, Kayla Thain, Reinolds, B Miller and A J Kerns.

The 125 Intermediates had another great 29 kart field and Dillon Silverman again set fast time with his 11.742 qualifying run. That just nipped the 11.774 of Bruckenstein. Kyle Larson had an 11.783 with Alan Ambers, Rudger Worley, Nic Helwig and Christopher Phillips also breaking into the 11s. N Helwig won the dash over Larson and Worley. Argetsinger earned the pole for the 20 lap A Main with her win in heat 1 over Cody Miller and Phillips. Bradley Terrell beat D Aldred and previous week winner Brian Southers in heat 2. The 10 kart B Main was won by Amanda Reinolds ahead of Camron Mendes and Alex Cartwright. D Aldred won the feature with Argetsinger second ahead of Terrell, Larson, Bruckenstein, Silverman, N Helwig, Nevadas MacKenna Bell, C Miller and Worley.

Nevadas Hunter Colodny beat out Bruckenstein for fast time honors in the Pro Box Stock class as he ran a 12.448 compared to the 12.627 of Bruckenstein. Double division racer Tyler Reddick was the final 12 second qualifier at 12.937. Bruckenstein beat Colodny and J Miller in the dash. Nic Larsen won the lone heat race over Tim Haylett and Katina Baker. Bruckenstein won the feature race with J Miller second ahead of Reddick, Colodny, Zachary Pina and Brayden Evans with 10 karts racing.

Reddick paced 38 Box Stocks in time trials with his 12.953 lap. Keith Bloom Jr was second at 13.057 and Jake Morgan ran a 13.142. Fifth quick Aaron Bundy won the dash ahead of Bloom Jr and Reddick. Sean Martin beat Cyle Allison in heat 1 and J Cartwright won heat 2 over Patchen. Wesley Dougherty and R J Johnson were 1-2 in heat 3. Casey McClain won the B Main ahead of Trevor Tennison, Leana Kenyon, Tristan Miller and Kellcy Bell. Devin Lee won the C Main with K Bell second ahead of Kenyon in a duel between the lady racers. Patchen was chased to his A Main win by J Cartwright, Bundy, Allison, Bartlett, Bloom Jr, Reddick, Dustin Jenkins and Morgan.

After the big QRC All Star Tour event on Monday Sept 1, the track will be dark on the following weekend due to the big Gold Cup race at Silver Dollar Speedway.
