Lakeport, CA -- The two kart team of A J Kerns and Austin Kerns from Sacramento elected to give the Friday night racing at Lakeport Speedway a try and A J Kerns enjoyed a near perfect night capped by a $55 feature win in the Open Outlaw Kart class. Only the dash win eluded A J Kerns as he won both his heat races and the main event. He ran second behind Eureka's Troy Combs in the dash. Whitney Peters improved her point lead with a second place feature run ahead of Eric Carlson. One of the two racing sons of Ukiah late model star Mike Martin, Jared Martin was dominant in the 125 Intermediate class. A division rookie, J Martin won the dash, combined a win and a second in the heat action and took the feature win ahead of Kelsie Kennedy and Cassie Millhouse. Having closed the 2003 outdoor season with a pair of feature wins, Tyler Reddick from Corning made it four straight wins in the Box Stock main event. Trevor Cristiani and rookie Jeremy Doss chased him across the finish line. Rohnert Park female racer Alissa Geving charged to the Beginner Box Stock feature win ahead of Riley Matson and point leader Austin Lathrop. Only the dash win eluded Mike Lovell in the F200 class. He won both heats and the feature, but ran second behind Palo Cedro long tow Kevin Acosta in the dash. Acosta and Steve McClean ran 2-3 in the feature race.
The open outlaw class had 10 entries and they used a double round of two heats to determine the dash participants and the remainder of the feature lineup. A J Kerns had the best heat race record with a pair of wins. By winning his first heat, he had to start last in his second heat but he also won that. Peters had a win and a second in her two heats and Combs combined a win and a third. Steve Sowders was the final dash participant with a 2nd and a 3rd. Combs turned an outside front row start into the dash win that earned him pole position for the feature. A J Kerns was second in the dash ahead of Peters. Combs had problems in the feature and placed 10th as A J Kerns won ahead of Peters, Carlson, Jamie Sowders, Jeremy Sowders, Austin Kerns and Lindsey Hamner. Peters point lead is 65 points over both Hamner and Jamie Sowders. The eight 125's all raced in both heat races for that class. Kennedy beat Klint Simpson in heat 1 with J Martin third. J Martin then won heat 2 over Simpson and Kennedy. That put J Martin inside row 2 for the dash and he beat Kennedy and Simpson to the checkered flag. That earned J Martin the pole for the main and he charged to a feature win ahead of Kennedy, Millhouse, double division racer Trevor Cristiani, Randy Wright and division rookie Trevor Sutton. J Martin's point lead is 43 over Wright and 67 ahead of Cristiani.
The Box Stocks had the biggest turnout with 13 entries and the track elected to race them all in the feature race. With a win and a second, J Doss and James Edens had the best heat race record. Reddick combined a win and a third and Trenton Banfill had a win and a fourth. Banfill won the dash from the pole to earn the pole position for the feature race. J Doss and Edens were 2-3 in the dash. Cristiani struggled in the heat action and lined up 10th on the feature grid. Reddick won from 4th starting with Cristiani charging forward to finish 2nd ahead of J Doss, Kyle Tellstrom, Banfill, Edens, Mikey Lovell and Kallen Matlock. With a pair of feature wins, Reddick has built a 45 point lead on J Doss with Cristiani another 9 points back in third. The Beginner Box Stocks had six entries and Lathrop won the first heat race ahead of Matson and Geving. Tony Rossi took heat 2 in front of Geving and Matson earned the pole for the main event with his dash win ahead of Rossi and Geving. Geving drove from 3rd to win her first feature ahead of Matson, Lathrop, Marcus Johnson, Rossi and second time racer Lucas Tellstrom. Opening night winner Lathrop remained the point leader with a 18 point lead over Geving, 35 in front of Rossi. The new F200 class had five racers and Mike Lovell beat Mike Doss and Acosta in heat 1. Mike Lovell then won heat 2 over Acosta and Steve McClean, but ran second behind Acosta in the dash. Outside front row starter Mike Lovell won the main event ahead of pole starter Acosta, S McClean, M Doss and newcomer Justin McClean.
