San Bernardino, CA --

Having finished a strong second in the track points and the winner of the $3,000 to win 200 lap special in August, Gerald Lair closed the late model season at Orange Show Speedway with another big win as he pocketed $2,000 for his victory in Saturday night’s 100 lapper. Lair had finished second in the dash to defending race champion David Beat from San Diego, but went on to edge Beat for the 100 lap win. Beat collected $1,000 for second and Greg Scheidecker was an $800 third. Fast timer John Soares from San Bernardino won the special 50 lap main for the modified ponies. Tom Smith from Long Beach scored a clean sweep in the final figure 8 action for 1999 as he posted fast time, won the dash, but had to battle back from a crash at the X to win the 25 lap main.

The late model open drew a 17 car field and Frankie Gould was fast timer at 13.52. Beat won the dash ahead of Lair, Gould and another Cajon Speedway regular Gary Tamborelli. In the main, Lair was chased to his win by Beat with G Scheidecker third ahead of Tamborelli, Orange Show champion Roger Brown, Ken Christensen, Rod Hildebrand, Robbie Hewitt and veteran Al Sadler making a rare start. Bill Flake was a feature scratch after engine woes.

There were 15 modified ponies in the pits, but only 12 managed to start the special 50 lapper. Fast timer Soares ran second in the dash behind Tim Carruthers and ahead of Mike Scheidecker. Despite the dash win, Carruthers was one of the feature scratches. The Yucaipa duo of Tony Edwards and Gary Edwards ran 2-3 in the main with Tim Soares fourth ahead of Kendall Scheidecker, Mike Brown, Oscar Smith III and Rob Hays. The figure 8 class had 11 entrants and fast timer Smith won the dash ahead of Billy Ziemann and Mike Klementich. Harry Kuenninger broke in the dash and did not start the special 25 lapper. Smith led early in the 25 lapper, but a tangle with Steve Cook forced him to start over in the rear. Ziemann gained the lead, but Smith stormed back and made his winning pass on the inside on the final round. Jozef Klementich was third in the main ahead of M Klementich, Loren Waite and Brad Peschek.
