IMPERIAL FEATURE WINS FOR CORNING, MILLER AND BUCK

Imperial, CA -- Veteran racer Larry Corning from San Diego continued his impressive 2005 campaign by wheeling the Mike Goldie owned IMCA Modified to a feature win Saturday night at Imperial Valley Speedway. Travelmate Don Pannel wheeled his recently purchased former Sherman Barnett car to a second ahead of Joe Heger. Rick Miller added to his pro stock point lead with wins in both his heat and the feature for the Pro Stocks. Robert Prince was second and he gained ground on both Aaron Mari and Scott Plunkett in their duel for second in points. Dash winner Michael Kaelberer ran third. Lowell Buck won his second straight factory stock main event ahead of Tommy Ferriera and Ryan Ferriera. Incoming point leader Adolfo Noriega was disqualified in post race tech to move T Ferriera into the point lead and make third ranked Buck a definite contender again. Max Sheffield got his first pure stock win with David Higgins second ahead of female rookie racer Valerie Vellas. Point leader Blaine Sharp was last in a 13 car event. Fourth ranked Quentin Tucker scored a clean sweep in the mini dwarf cars with victories in his heat and the feature. Point runnerup Cole Edgemon ran second, but gained little ground on point leader Michael Goodspeed, who ran third.

There were 14 IMCA modifieds and Keith Smith won heat 1 ahead of Heger and point runnerup Duane Rogers. Vance Allen outraced Pannel and Corning in heat 2. Corey Clayton and Myles Wyatt had missed the heat action, but tagged the main event. Corning gained the feature win ahead of Pannel, Heger, Allen, Rogers, point leader and defending champion Eric Evans, Clayton, Ron Pegues and Lance Mari. John Seaman jumped into the QT55 car and wheeled it to a 10th. Counting the events outside the IMCA point window, E Evans is 13 points up on Rogers in their track championship duel. The pro stocks got the dash event this week and Kaelberer collected that win ahead of Jimmy Nuckles and Cory Hemphill. Hemphill ended up being disqualified from the feature for failing post race tech. R Miller won the heat race ahead of Plunkett and A Mari. Both Plunkett and A Mari had problems in the feature and R Miller got the win ahead of Prince, Kaelberer, Mark Dessert and Nuckles. Plunkett was 6th and A Mari 7th in the 8 car race.

The 9 factory stocks raced in a single heat race and Leonard R Jones gained the win ahead of Buck, T Ferriera and R Ferriera. Noriega's disqualification changed the feature finish to read Buck, T Ferriera, R Ferriera, Ronnie Severt and Mike Kracker. It also made T Ferriera the point leader with a small margin over both R Ferriera and Buck. Chris Toth won the first pure stock heat race in front of Mike Ellis and Sheffield. Point runnerup Jim Brinnon won heat 2 with Sharp second ahead of Vellas. Sheffield was chased to his feature win by Yuma racer Higgins, Vellas, Richard Coulson, third ranked Leonard E Jones, Don McCollough Sr and Josh Hickingbottom. Brinnon was 8th and point leader Sharp 13th. Toth also struggled with a 12th. The nine mini dwarf cars were divided into two heat races and Tucker outraced Edgemon and Austin Bonillas in heat 1. Goodspeed won heat 2 ahead of Jake Miller and Tom Smith. Tucker completed his sweep with a feature win ahead of Edgemon, Goodspeed and third ranked J Miller. Nathan Rock was fifth ahead of Bonillas and T Smith.
