Prescott, AZ -- After a late race side by side duel with Eric Center, Jim Collinsworth won Saturday night’s IMCA Modified feature at Prescott Valley Raceway to protect his narrow point lead. Collinsworth also won his heat race and came out of the night with just a 3 point lead on Center. Rod Wright made his season debut with a third ahead of third ranked Tim Palmer. Palmer stands just 4 points back of Center. Hank Logue took the lead at the midway mark and won the pure stock main event for the third time in this young season. The win paid $200 and point leader Steve Rezek was a $175 second. Jeff Kuykendall won $150 for third. Rezek’s point lead is 9 over fourth place finisher Bill Moore Jr. In a race slowed by an incredible 9 yellow flags, Dean Riggs led from lap 3 to win the 20 lap feature for the Arizona Dwarf Cars. Brad Hickson spun on lap 2, but battled back to a second place finish ahead of Shawn Arnold and Cam Muldner.

There were 13 IMCA Modifieds and Collinsworth averaged 18.66 per lap as he won heat 1 over Matt Phillips and Palmer. John Morris Jr established a new track record of 146.41 seconds as he won heat 2. That averages 18.30 a lap and Wright was second ahead of Center. Ben Peterson broke in hot laps and a dozen cars started the 20 lap feature. Phillips led the opening lap and Richard Markley took over on lap 2. A lap four caution found Jim MacNeil sitting backwards in turn 1, his race over. Markley now led Phillips and Center, but Phillips fell out to move Collinsworth into third. Texas visitor Justin Martin spun for a lap 9 yellow. Center became the new leader when Markley spun. With three laps to go, Collinsworth pulled alongside Center and they battled to the checkered flag with Collinsworth getting the narrow win. Center ran second ahead of Wright, Palmer, Martin, Morris, pure stock convert Steve Shumaker and Mike Davidson.

Fifteen pure stocks checked in, but Gene Hester broke in hot laps. Moore Jr won the opening heat race over Corey Mendoza and Patrick Shumaker. Brad Bartsch beat Logue and Kuykendall in heat 2. Rezek took an early lead in the feature over Ed Parry and Kuykendall. On lap 6, Logue grabbed third from Kuykendall. On lap 8, Rezek got trapped in lapped traffic and lost the top spot to Parry. Logue was the new leader on lap 9 and the only caution flag of the 20 lapper came on lap 17 when Wayne Bishop spun. Logue picked the right line through the slower cars and picked off his third Prescott win of 2005. Rezek ran second ahead of Kuykendall, Moore, Parry, P Shumaker, Bartsch, Ron Hull, Bishop and Mendoza.

The Arizona Dwarf Cars split 18 cars into three heat races and Hickson was flying as he captured heat 1 in 143.56 seconds, an average of 17.95 per lap. John Priest ran second ahead of Cam Muldner and Riggs. Tim Barber beat Jeff Adams and Clayton Echols in heat 2. Danny Torgerson outraced Dan Yirku and Peter Dozeman in heat 3. Muldner led the first two laps of the 20 lap feature. Hickson spun into the infield for the first of the 9 yellow flags on lap 2 and Riggs became the new leader on lap 3. Numerous spins and stalls slowed the action. Hickson was back to second at midway, but could only chase Riggs the rest of the way. Riggs won ahead of Hickson, Arnold, Muldner, Yirku, Barber, Adams and Scott Winger.

July 9 will feature a North-South Shootout race between the Desert Dwarf Cars and NADCAR. Also racing will be the IMCA Modifieds and Mini Stocks.
