Yreka, CA -- Former track dominator Scott Lenz from Shady Cove OR returned to UMP Modified action at Siskiyou Motor Speedway and he raced to a $1000 win in the 50 lap Rod Restad Memorial race on Saturday night. Lenz skipped a couple Yreka races this year to prepare for and compete at the $4000 to win Cottage Grove special and that has dropped him to fourth in track points. He is 24 points back of track point leader John Toolanen. Medford area racers claimed the top six spots with another frequent Yreka feature winner Mark Wauge in second ahead of young Chris Salyer and veterans Brian Poppa and Bruce Rayburn Sr. In the pro stocks, Medford area residents took the top four spots with Rob Fitzsimmons the feature winner ahead of track regular Glenn McElreath, dash winner Chris Charlton and Mike Jones. Point leader Dan Thomas was 7th and holds a 57 point lead over McElreath. After second place runs in both his heat and the dash, Rick Hysell from Shasta Lake won the super stock main event with young Kurt Lorenzini in second. Veteran Doug Franklin ran third. Point leader Chris Cullen was sixth. Only a second in his heat kept new Medford resident Toby Judd from perfection in the mini stocks. The former Yreka resident won the dash and feature with Robert McKnight second in the feature ahead of Klamath Falls OR racer Dan Borror and John Derby. Borror is second in points behind Terry Kendrick. This was the final race before a near month long break in the schedule for the Siskiyou County Fair. Racing resumes on August 20.

A dark night in Medford found 25 UMP Modifieds in action. The top four from each of the four heats advanced into the 50 lap special and they were joined by four transfers from the B Main. Lenny Toolanen won the opening heat race over Lenz and Roger Lorenzini Jr. Wauge beat Poppa and Gary Fleisch in heat 2 and it was J Toolanen getting heat 3 over Santa Rosa CA resident Anthony Restad and Richard Workman. Matt Duste won heat 4 in front of track title challenger Jeremy Richey and Bill Theis. Salyer had to battle through the B Main that he won ahead of Ken Ford, rookie Jeff Hudson, Donny Bottoms and Jesse Morton. M Duste was the dash winner ahead of the brother team of J Toolanen and L Toolanen. Lenz added another feature win in the 50 lapper ahead of Wauge, 9th row starter Salyer, Poppa, Bruce Rayburn Sr, M Duste, Lorenzini Jr, Richey, Theis, Andy Freeman, Fleisch and J Toolanen. J Toolanen went into the schedule break with just a 2 point lead on Richey, 19 front of Donny Bottoms and 24 ahead of Lenz. Hudson is only two points back of Lenz and L Toolanen rounds out the top five.

The large contingent of Oregon cars gave the Pro Stocks a 15 car turnout. Doug Turney from Medford won the first heat ahead of point leader Thomas from Klamath Falls and Fitzsimmons. Jones outraced Charlton and another Medford entrant Wayne Kniffen in heat 2. Charlton was the dash winner over Jones and Turney.Jones is third in the Medford point listing and Charlton fourth. Fitzsimmons was the feature winner ahead of McElreath, Charlton, Jones, Scott Flowers, Kniffen, Thomas, Jake Berryhill, pavement convert Keith Scott and Janet Stephens. Klamath Falls residents hold down three of the top four point slots with Thomas 57 points in front of Central Point OR resident McElreath. Flowers is another 41 points back in third, 27 in front of Scott. Female racer Stephens rounds out the top five.

The ten super stocks were divided into two heat races. Franklin won the first ahead of Cullen and K Lorenzini. Veteran Tony Morton captured heat 2 in front of Rick Hysell and J D Rose, but broke in the dash to end his night. It was T Morton’s first appearance of the season. Cullen won the dash over Rick Hysell and Franklin. Rick Hysell outraced K Lorenzini for the feature win with Franklin third ahead of Klamath Falls racer Randy Goodrich and Todd Hansen. Point leader Cullen ran sixth ahead of Rose, Mike Evans Jr and Mike Caveye. Cullen’s point lead is 87 over Rose. K Lorenzini stands third ahead of Steve Borror. K Lorenzini missed one night this season and his grandfather Roger Lorenzini Sr filled in for him with a feature win.

There were 16 mini stocks. Female racer Belinda Duste won heat 1 over point leader T Kendrick and Christopher Kendrick. K Falls D Borror outraced Judd and Medford’s John Derby in heat 2. Judd in third in points at his new home track in Medford. Judd won the dash over T Kendrick and Dan Borror. Cynthia Thomas was a feature scratch to leave a 15 car main event.
