Bakersfield, CA -- Pulling alongside leader Tim Huddleston on lap 111 and taking the top spot a lap later, track champion Eric Richardson drove to a $3000 win in Friday night’s Green Frog Market 125 for the late models as the 29th Annual and final October Classic weekend continued at Mesa Marin Raceway. Avoiding a confrontation between second place duelers Huddleston and Cody Pruitt on lap 118, Josh Horn finished in the $1100 runnerup slot ahead of Brian Richardson, cousin of the race winner. B Richardson won $1000 and Huddleston ended up settling for the $800 fourth after leading the first 111 laps from his pole start. Eddie Patterson ran fifth ahead of Irwindale Speedway regular Scott Youngren and provisional starter Roy DeGeer, who battled his way from 29th starting. A late caution extended the race to 131 laps.

A pair of twin 40 lap qualifying races on Thursday night had determined the 28 car A Main field and provisionals were open to anyone in the top 12 in Mesa Marin points who failed to qualify. Jeff Smith had checked himself into the hospital after his fiery crash on Thursday so there were 29 starters. A seven car inversion put Huddleston, Travis Thirkettle, Horn, B Richardson and E Richardson in front of Thursday night winners Pruitt and Ray Robinson at the start. Robinson had established a new track record in Thursday night time trials. Irwindale Speedway regular Huddleston raced into the lead over Thirkettle, Horn and E Richardson as the long distance feature got underway. Robby McLaughlin was sidelined with a flat tire on lap 3 and debris forced the first yellow flag on lap 25. Robinson had moved into fifth on lap 2. A spin by Kevin Sevenich forced a lap 37 yellow flag and Chris Johnson was sent to the rear for spinning Candace Muzny out for a lap 44 yellow. Barry Bradshaw pitted on this caution. E Richardson took third from Horn on lap 50 and a tangle between Jeff DeStefani and Mike Lay produced a very long yellow flag on lap 52. When Madera’s Rick Thompson spun for a lap 69 yellow, Jameel Saied pitted. Green flag racing resumed on lap 73, but Kevin Callahan spun for a yellow on the next round. The yellow flags continued as Dan DiGiamarino spun on lap 84 and Bradshaw again pitted. Pruitt was looking to drive underneath Robinson for fifth on this restart. Debris forced another yellow on lap 91 and Robinson pitted his mount with a broken engine. Pruitt was now fifth. Thirkettle got into the fence and fell from second to fifth on lap 98 as E Richardson was now second over Horn and Pruitt. B Richardson took fifth from Thirkettle and Thirkettle retired on lap 106. Pruitt saw his hood blow off for a lap 101 yellow flag. E Richardson was able to make his inside pass on leader Huddleston for the top spot on lap 112. Altamont’s Brian Koski fell out after being lapped by the leader. Pruitt tried an outside pass on Huddleston for second, but they made contact and Huddleston fell back to fourth behind Horn and B Richardson. This produced the lap 118 yellow flag. During the caution, Pruitt got into the rear of Huddleston several times and Pruitt was blackflagged off the track. Youngren was now up to fifth. The first attempt at two green flag laps to end the race saw the caution again flying for a spin by Greg Carpenter. Finally, two green flag laps were run and the race ended on lap 131 with E Richardson the winner over Horn, B Richardson, Huddleston, Patterson, Youngren, 29th starter DeGeer, Shane Thompson, Altamont’s David Hulsey, DiGiamarino, Callahan and A J DeStefani.
