Red Bluff, CA -- His winter activity of indoor outlaw kart racing is in stark contrast to his pavement late model career, but Ryan Foster enjoys returning to his racing roots and he capped a big night on Saturday with a feature win in the Open Outlaw Karts as the Red Bluff Winter Indoor Season staged it’s next to last point race. Foster was second quick time, third in the dash, second to former champion Brian McCain in his heat and first across the line in the feature action ahead of winged sprint car racer Beau Perkins and John Michael Bunch. It has been a tough winter for B McCain, but he ran fourth tonight after timing in 12th quick and capturing that heat win. Tyler McCain maintained his point lead with a sixth. Robert Marcos led just the final three laps in his first Open Intermediate A Main win. Garrett Mills ran second ahead of female star Mackena Bell. Princeton’s Mason Moore pretty much wrapped up the season championship with an 8th place run after setting quick time. His closest rival Kyle Larson was running fifth when his chain broke on the final lap. The son of a recognized drag racer Terry Cox, Justyn Cox from Clarksburg fought off the fierce challenges of Larson to also post a first career win in the 25 lap feature for the Intermediate division. Larson was again subbing in that class, earning points for Oregon racer Dylan Pemberton. Cox timed in 8th quick, ran second in his heat and started on the pole for the A Main action. Larson was quick timer and started fourth alongside point leader Brian Southers. Southers ran third in the feature to maintain a small point lead over Colby Copeland, who was 8th. For a second straight week, Trevor Tennison used a sub and Keith Bloom Jr gained him a fourth place finish. The standings in the box stocks are still unofficial as the six fastest qualifiers all had their engines checked at the end of the night. The results of that test have not been announced, but Tyler Seavey drove to wins in the dash, his heat and the feature after timing in sixth quick. Third quick Lain Baker was second at the checkered flag ahead of incoming point leader Kellcy Bell from Nevada. Another Nevada racer Tanner Thorson ran fourth ahead of fast timer Casey McClain. Fifth ranked T Seavey was just 30 points back of K Bell starting the night. The much improved Bryce Acquistapace from Chico raced to another feature win in the Beginner Box Stocks with new point leader Chase Majdic second ahead of Katina Baker and another point title hopeful Devin Lee. Richie Carrel came into the night with a 17 point lead on Majdic, but timed in 8th quick and had to battle through the C Main. He won the C Main, but was the first kart to fall out in the B Main action. The battle for the F200 title will also go right down to the final lap of action as point leader Alyssa Hogan won tonight’s feature ahead of second ranked Braedon Enos. Hogan was just 3 points in front of Enos starting the night. Chad Hembree ran third in the feature ahead of fast timer Paul Baker.

In the Red Bluff point system, it is critical that the point chasers time at the top of the qualifying order and Open Outlaw point leader T McCain fulfilled that task with quick time over a 44 kart turnout at 8.582. Foster clicked off a 8.591 and second ranked Tyler Wolf was third quick at 8.607. Wolf started the night 26 points back of T McCain and 9 in front of Brett Miller. Rounding out the dash were Steven Gannon, sprint car champion Sean Becker and a rare Red Bluff appearance for Cycleland regular Jerry Johnson. B Miller just missed in 7th as Pete Johnston ranked 8th. S Becker got the dash from his outside front row start. The highly competitive five heat races transfer just the top two finishers from each into the A Main action. Female star Reyna Krueger again qualified for the A Main with her win in heat 1 over fast timer T McCain and Oregon’s Jason Mendenhall. B McCain beat Foster and B Miller in heat 2 and Justin Grant captured heat 3 over Johnston and Brent Hamilton. Perkins stayed hot with his win in heat 4 ahead of Gannon and 9th quick Kevin Juvenal. S Becker made the move into the A Main with a win in heat 5 over Bunch and Derek O’Bannon. J Johnson had a tough heat race and started his night in the D Main. J Johnson scored that win ahead of David Tarter and Kevin Gray. J Johnson just missed the move up out of the C Main as he ran fifth. Michael Hubert III won the C Main ahead of Bubba Hill, Dean Bare and a returning Matt Peacher. The highly competitive B Main found 14 karts chasing those final four starting slots in the A. B Miller out dueled Wolf for the win with Brandon Aldred and Hamilton also moving up. Cody Braund ran fifth ahead of Bare and Hubert III. Foster topped his big night with an A Main win in front of Perkins, Bunch, B McCain, S Becker, T McCain, Johnston, Wolf, Grant, B Miller and Hamilton.

Moore continued on the path to his Open Intermediate championship by out timing the 19 kart field with a very quick 8.470 clocking. Jake Park ran 8.508 and Bloom Jr ranked third at 8.531. The dash field was rounded out by Mills, Larson and Dillon Silverman. Larson turned his outside front row start into a win in the dash over Silverman and Bloom. The three heat format transferred the top 3 in each into the A Main, but several top runners were forced to compete in the B Main. Michael Forslund captured heat 1 over Derek Copeland and Mills with Moore missing the move in sixth. M Bell outraced Andrew Cumpton and Park in heat 2 and a last lap tangle relegated Larson to sixth. Nevada’s Cameron Millard subbed for Kayla Thain and won heat 3 ahead of Marcos and Brad Patchen. Both Silverman and Bloom missed the transfer in this heat. That left five top chargers to duel for four transfers in the 10 kart B Main. Third ranked Bloom won from the outside front row. Larson used a late bobble by Silverman to finish third behind front row starter Moore. The leaders had to race around a multi kart tangle on the way to a checkered yellow finish and Alissa Geving dove to the bottom and beat Silverman’s outside route to the flag for the last transfer. Silverman ran fifth ahead of Mathew Davis. Marcos led the final three laps for his first A Main win. Mills ran second ahead of M Bell. Larson started 12th and gained sixth on lap 18 when Moore, Bloom and Forslund tangled. He then drove by D Copeland for fifth. Larson’s chain had came off when he got into the fence in time trials and it broke on the last lap of the A Main, relegating him to a 13th place finish and ending his hopes of overtaking Moore for the season title. D Copeland ended up fourth ahead of Geving, Bloom, Park, Moore and Forslund.

You are only allowed to race for points in one class at Red Bluff, but you can sub in others and Larson has run more than ½ of the Intermediate schedule as a sub. He turned quick time for the 29 karts this week at 8.726. That just nipped the 8.762 for C Copeland. Southers got the qualifying points that he needed in third at 8.794. The dash was rounded out by Shane Graham, Kenny Allen and Chase Hill. Bloom just missed in 7th as the Tennison sub and Cox ranked 8th. C Hill was the dash winner over Allen and Southers. Even with the large field, they still raced three heats and took just 3 from each. Jason Mittry beat 10 year old Tyler Reddick and Larson in heat 1 as Oregon’s Seth Nunes ran fourth. Nicholas Bellamy outraced Cox and Allen in heat 2 and Wyatt Pruitt won heat 3 ahead of Thomas Bruckenstein and Southers. Southers started the night 3 points up on Copeland and 18 ahead of Bruckenstein. Graham ran 7th in his heat and had to race in the C Main. He won that event ahead of Jeremy Andreason, Josh Keheley and Danny Andreason. C Copeland was fourth in his heat, but raced his way into the A Main with a win in the B Main ahead of C Hill, Nunes and Bloom. Just missing the move up were Keheley, Jonathan Hoheisel and C Millard. Cox and Allen had the front row for the 25 lap A Main with Southers and Larson in row 2. Cox led all 25 laps from the pole with Allen second for the first 15 ahead of Southers and Larson. Southers raced into second on lap 16, Larson grabbed third on lap 17 and then Larson raced by Southers for second on lap 18. The final 8 laps found Larson pressuring his friend Cox, but Cox never bobbled as he drove to his first feature win. Larson ran second ahead of Southers, Bloom, Allen, Bruckenstein, Pruitt, C Copeland and C Hill.

Casey McClain easily set fast time for the 30 Box Stocks with his 9.494 clocking. Cameron Bartlett started the night just five points back of point leader K Bell and one ahead of McClain. Bartlett was second fast at 9.689 and L Baker ran 9.772. K Bell managed fourth with her 9.802 as James Edens and T Seavey rounded out the dash field. T Seavey’s younger brother Logan Seavey just missed the dash in 7th as Eureka’s Brandon White ranked 8th. T Seavey was the dash winner over Edens and K Bell. This class starts 16 karts in their A Main so they run three large heat races and take four karts out of each. McClain won the opening heat race ahead of Ukiah’s Kyle Tellstrom, K Bell and Nevada’s Mason Millard. Bartlett ouraced Jake Morgan, Brandon White and T Thorson in heat 2. T Seavey’s big night continued with a win in heat 3 over David Lee and Nevada’s Zachary Heinz. Tanner Donnelly won a small C Main ahead of Mason Crowell and Hunter Kinney. Edens and L Seavey had to battle through the B Main and they ran 1-2 ahead of female racer Alyssa Heathcoat, Tony Ross, Wesley Dougherty and Tanner Thomson. T Seavey was first to the checkered flag in the hotly contested A Main as L Baker ran second ahead of K Bell, T Thorson, McClain, Morgan, Bartlett, Edens, K Tellstrom and Brandon White. L Seavey had started the night in 4th, three points ahead of his older brother, but his title hopes took a blow with a 12th place finish. Everything was still considered unofficial pending the rulings on the engine tear downs on the top six qualifiers.

There were 28 Beginner Box Stocks and Brian Hubert paced time trials with his 10.830 lap. That just nipped the 10.924 posted by Majdic. Michael Call ran 11.120 to edge out the 11.141 for Devin Lee. Jesse James Colwell and Acquistapace also made the dash with K Baker in 7th. Four heat races and only the top two in each advance as this class is limited to a 12 kart A Main. Taylor Matson beat Colwell in heat 1 as fast timer B Hubert missed in third. Majdic and Acquistapace advanced from heat 2. Call beat Morgan Sandhagen in heat 3 with K Baker missing in third. R Carrel ran fifth in heat 4 as Jarrett Gillingwater won ahead of Colton Able. Devin Lee was also forced into the C Main with a sixth place run. R Carrel won the C Main over Justin Bradway, Devin Lee and Jake VanBoekel. After only managing third in the C Main, Devin Lee drove through the whole pack to win the B Main ahead of B Hubert, K Baker and Carley Dougherty. Just missing transfers in the A Main were Bradway and Colby Cates. Acquistapace was the A Main winner again as he remained red hot. Majdic made his big move up the points ladder with a 2nd ahead of K Baker, 9th starting Devin Lee, Colwell, C Dougherty, Call and J Gillingwater.

Paul Baker was the fastest of the 9 F200s with a 10.217 lap. Enos ran 10.292 and JoJo Owens joined the action for the first time this winter in third at 10.371. Hogan ranked fourth ahead of last season champion Kevin Acosta. Acosta beat P Baker and Vic Hannan in the dash. The consistent Hogan pocketed a popular A Main win ahead of Enos, Hembree, P Baker, Cody Smith and Jim DeArmond.

The final point race is set for Feb 18, there will be a playday on the day of the banquet on March 11 and the West Coast Nationals will move from their stiffling hot previous date of July 4th weekend to March 17-19 this year.
