Red Bluff, CA -- The son of Shasta Speedway legend Roger Gannon, pavement late model racer Steven Gannon fought off the challenges of winged sprint car stars Beau Perkins and Sean Becker to capture the 25 lap point season finale for the Open Outlaw Karts Saturday night at the Red Bluff Fairgrounds indoor track. Gannon's held a one second lead at the checkered flag and his win climbed him into 10th place in the final standings. There was also drama back in the pack as Cycleland Speedway champion Tyler Wolf needed an 8th place finish to overtake former QRC All Star Tour champion Tyler McCain for the point championship. T McCain's night had ended on the first lap of the C Main. During the event, Wolf ran high enough to get the title, but got shuffled back to a 9th place finish and lost the championship by one point to T McCain. Garrett Mills' 25 lap A Main win in the Open Intermediate class allowed him to climb into second in points as division champion Mason Moore ran third behind Jake Park. Kyle Larson had to come through the B Main and he ran 7th to finish 7 points back of Mills. A very exciting Intermediate A Main found the lead changing hands as the leaders were unable to find a route around the back of the pack. Young 10 year old Tyler Reddick appeared headed to the win, but lost the lead late to Thomas Bruckenstein. Bruckenstein also got hung up behind the slower kart and Reddick made a last lap charge that fell short by just 1/50th of a second. Race winner Bruckenstein ended up third in points and third place finisher Colby Copeland fell 7 points short in his bid to overtake fourth place finisher Brian Southers for the track title. Despite having the pressure of leading the incredibly tight Box Stock championship fight throughout the closing events, tiny 10 year old racer Kellcy Bell came through on the final night driving to a 25 lap feature win after earlier setting third quick time and winning her heat race. The Nevada racer was the Beginner Box Stock champion in 2003/2004 and rookie of the year last winter in the Box Stocks. Her feature win left her with just an 11 point lead over former Lakeport champion Cameron Bartlett in the title fight. Tyler Seavey was another 20 points back in third. Casey McClain rebounded from the disappointment of his previous week disqualification to set fast time and run second in the feature ahead of James Edens. Much improved Michael Call captured the 25 lap Beginner Box Stock main event by just 1/3 of a second over Richie Carrel. Call had timed in third quick, ran third in the dash and second in his heat. When Chase Majdic was assessed a point penalty for an altered restrictor plate in the finale, Carrel emerged as track champion with a 16 point margin on Devin Lee. Majdic finished 51 points back in third. Brian Hubert was third in the finale ahead of Devin Lee. Alyssa Hogan made it two female Red Bluff champions this winter and did it in the same manner as K Bell, winning the final 16 lap feature for the F200 class. She also posted quick time and won the championship by just 12 points over Braedon Enos, who ran fourth in the feature behind Paul Baker and Vic Hannan.

S Becker was quickest of the 45 Open Outlaws in time trials at 8.457. Another former champion Brian McCain ran 8.530 and Pete Johnston ranked third at 8.539. Also making the dash were feature winner Gannon, Perkins and championship hopeful Tyler Wolf. Perkins ran a quick lap of 8.946 as he won the dash over Wolf and Johnston. The usual five heat format transfers just the top two finishers from each heat into the 25 lap A Main. Only one second separated the top four finishers in heat 1 as David Tarter beat B Miller, S Becker and Wolf. B Miller was actually the quickest with a 8.798 lap. Clicking off a 8.820, Brandon Aldred won heat2 over B McCain and Justin Grant. John Michael Bunch won heat 3 with a best of 8.920. Jerry Johnson ran second with Johnston in third despite a 8.799 best lap. Shawn Amos edged out Gannon in heat 4 with a best lap of 8.972. Bubba Hill was just 1/5 of a second ahead of Perkins at the checkered flag in heat 5. Daniel Becker ran a best lap of 8.932 as he won the 20 lap D Main by just 1/3 of a second over point leader Tyler McCain. Mark Porter was third ahead of Oregon's Joe Weststeyn and Alex Cartwright. T McCain's night ended on the first lap of the C Main. Michael Hubert III won the 20 lap C Main by just 1/3 of a second ahead of Foster, J Weststeyn and Tyler Ritcheson. Just missing the transfer were Scott Burgess and Michael Helwig. As always, the 20 lap B Main was hotly contested with 14 karts chasing those final four starting slots in the A Main. Running a best lap of 8.886, Johnston won ahead of S Becker, Wolf and Cody Braund. Just missing the move into the A Main were Foster, Dean Bare, Brent Hamilton and Grant. M Hubert III was 9th. The top ten finished on the lead lap in the 25 lap A Main. Both B McCain and Amos were out on lap 6 and a lap 18 tangle ended the night for Braund and Johnson. Gannon ran the quickest lap of 8.929 as he finished one second ahead of a second place photo finish between winged sprint car racers Perkins and S Becker. B Miller ran fourth ahead of Aldred, D Tarter, B Hill, Bunch, Wolf and Johnston. Wolf needed to finish in the top 8 to edge out T McCain for the championship and spent some time in the top six before falling back at the end of the race. His 9th place run left the Cycleland champion just one point back of T McCain in the title fight. B Miller closed to within 14 points of champion T McCain. Perkins was fourth ahead of Foster, Hamilton, Johnston, Aldred, Bunch and Gannon. The race night ended with a pair of Care Free Pool sponsored dashes for the top six in points. When T McCain elected not to run, Gannon was added. Care Free Pool owner Bill Bell put up $600 for the overall winner. B Miller won the first dash ahead of Wolf, Foster and Brent Hamilton. After finishing at the back of the first race, Perkins and Gannon ran 1-2 in the second ahead of Foster and B Miller. Foster pocketed the $600 for his pair of third place runs.

There were 23 Open Intermediates and champion Moore was quickest with a 8.653 qualifying run. Keith Bloom Jr ran 8.662 and female star Alissa Geving ran a 8.701. Also making the dash were feature winner Mills, Jake Park and Larson. Larson had a best lap of 9.172 as he won the dash from the pole over Geving and Mills. Geving ran 9.154 and fifth place Park had the quickest dash lap at 9.097. The three heat format in this class transfers the top 3 into the 25 lap A Main. Mills' big night included a win in heat 1 with a best lap of 8.910. Andrew Cumpton ran second ahead of Moore. Park was quick in heat 2 with a best of 9.038 as he edged out Nevada's Mackena Bell and Robert Marcos. Larson had the quickest lap in heat 3 at 9.045 but settled for fifth and a slot in the B Main. Dillon Silverman won heat 3 with a best lap of 9.092 with Geving second ahead of Kenny McArthur. Larson rebounded to click off a 8.983 best as he won the B Main ahead of Bloom, whose best was 9.030. Also transferring up were Camron Mendes and Derek Copeland. Missing the move were Mathew Davis, Kayla Thain and Brad Patchen. Mills was able to edge out Larson for second in division points by winning the 25 lap feature by one second over Park with a best lap of 9.033. Moore ran third ahead of Silverman, Cumpton, M Bell, Larson, Marcos and Mendes. The very consistent Moore won the championship by 44 points over Mills with Larson slipping back to third, 7 tallies behind Mills. Bloom ranked fourth, just five ahead of Silverman. The much improved Park was sixth ahead of Cumpton, Marcos and Geving.

Championship hopeful Colby Copeland was quickest of the 27 Intermediates with his 8.773 qualifying run. Trevor Tennison ran 8.790 and point leader Southers ran a 8.792. The top 11 were in the 8's as Max Adams, 10 year old Reddick and Justyn Cox also made the dash. Bruckenstein just missed the dash in 7th. Reddick was enjoying his best night in this class as he won the dash with a best lap of 9.015. Cox ran second ahead of Southers. Again, three heat races with three transfers from each. Bruckenstein clicked off a 9.035 as he won heat 1 over C Copeland and Josh Keheley. Shane Graham dipped into the 8's with a 8.986 as he won heat 2 by a half second over Reddick, who ran 9.000. Wyatt Pruitt was third. Kenny Allen had a best of 9.023 as he edged out Chase Hill and Southers in heat 3. After a tough heat race, Cox won the C Main with a best of 9.017. He was just 1/4 second ahead of Jeremy Andreason at the checkered flag. Oregon's Dylan Pemberton ran third. Tennison won the B Main by one second with a best lap of 9.075. Adams ran second ahead of Oregon's Seth Nunes, J Andreason, Pemberton and Cox. All 13 starters finished on the lead lap in a great 25 lap A Main. After an early red flag, the 25 lapper ran the rest of the way under the green. Reddick appeared headed to the win, but couldn't get around last running J Andreason. That allowed both Bruckenstein and C Copeland to close. Bruckenstein nosed ahead but he too couldn't find a route around the slower machine. Reddick made a strong final straight charge at Bruckenstein, but fell just short at the checkered flag. Bruckenstein posted the win by just 1/50 of a second ahead of Reddick. Third place C Copeland was just 1/4 second behind the winner. Bruckenstein's best lap of 9.049 and Reddick ran 8.902. Southers still managed to hang on for the title with a fourth ahead of Tennison, Allen, Keheley, Graham and C Hill. Southers was 7 points up on C Copeland in the final standings with Bruckenstein only 27 points back of the champion. Adams ended up fourth in points ahead of C Hil, Allen, Cox, Graham, Reddick and Pemberton.

Fending off his disappointment of falling out of the title race with his disqualification the previous week, Cycleland champion Casey McClain was quickest of the 24 Box Stocks at 9.547. Cameron Bartlett ran 9.615 and point leader K Bell clicked off a 9.660. The top 8 were in the 9's with Jake Morgan fourth ahead of Tyler Seavey and Eureka's Brandon White. T Seavey won the dash with a best time of 10.078 as runnerup Bartlett ran a 9.865. K Bell continued down the road to the title with a third. This division runs three heats and takes four from each. McClain ran a 9.808 as he won heat 1 by just 1/5 of a second ahead of Wesley Dougherty. Morgan ran third. Bartlett was flying with a best of 9.661 as he edged out T Seavey and James Edens in heat 2. K Bell continued to rack up the points with a win in heat 3 at 9.953. Brandon White ran second ahead of Logan Seavey. Nevada's Tanner Thorson won the B Main with a best lap of 10.174 as Lain Baker ran second ahead of Taylor Baker, Alyssa Heathcoat, Britney White and Brandon Banda. K Bell questioned her crew chief father Kelly Bell about where she needed to finish in the A to win the title, but he told her to just go out and win the race. The tiny ten year old won her second Red Bluff title in three years as she was 3/5 of a second ahead of McClain at the lap 25 checkered flag. Her best lap was a 9.991. Edens ran third ahead of Bartlett and Logan Seavey. Sixth place Morgan had the quickest feature lap at 9.887 and 7th place T Thorson ran 9.981. T Seavey was 8th ahead of Nevada's Mason Millard and L Baker. When the six fastest karts were checked the previous week, McClain was the only one found illegal. He lost his points for the night including quick time, a heat win and a fifth in the feature. K Bell's big final night left the young female racer with an 11 point lead on Bartlett. T Seavey was another 20 points back in third ahead of L Seavey, T Thorson, Edens, L Baker and McClain.

B Hubert was fastest of the 23 Beginner Box Stocks at 10.964. Jesse James Colwell ran 11.059 and feature winner Call was third at 11.110. Katina Baker ran 11.210, Richie Carrel a 11.260 and Devin Lee was the final dash kart at 11.273. Carrel ran a 11.307 as he won the dash over K Baker and Call. Fourth place B Hubert had the quickest dash lap at 11.281. Four heat races transfer just two karts each. Carley Dougherty won heat 1 by 2/3 of a second over the photo finish between B Hubert and Carrel. C Dougherty ran 11.697 and B Hubert had a 10.952. Devin Lee won heat 2 with a 11.405 as the flying Colwell ran a 11.138 in his runnerup run. Point leader Chase Majdic had timed in 7th quick but won heat 3 with a best lap of 11.275. Call ran second with a best of 11.134. Zachary Rushing was 8th quick and won heat 4 over K Baker and Bryce Acquistapace. Rushing ran 11.323 with Acquistapace quicker at 11.299. Rookie Colby Cates won the C Main ahead of Nevada's Samantha Schultz and Ryan Robinson. Carrel was forced to race in the B Main and he won with a best lap of 11.372. He was 1/3 second ahead of Acquistapace at the checkered flag. Acquistapace was again quicker than the winner with a best lap of 11.155. Justin Bradway ran third, but failed to make the call for the A Main. Schultz edged out Cates for fourth. Call won the 25 lap A Main with a best lap of 11.185 and a winning margin of 1/3 second over Carrel. B Hubert ran third ahead of Devin Lee, Acquistapace, K Baker, C Dougherty and Rushing. Again, Acquistapace was quicker than the race winner with a best lap of 11.138, but 9th place finisher Colwell was even quicker at 11.119. Carrel had a best lap of 11.182 as he battled from 9th starting to his runnerup finish. Majdic ran last in the 11 kart feature. With the Majdic penalty, Carrel won the championship by 16 points over Devin Lee and 51 ahead of Majdic. Call did finish fourth, 30 behind Majdic and just 6 ahead of Hubert. K Baker was sixth, just 16 behind Hubert and just 7 ahead of Colwell.

The F200 class had a season high 11 kart turnout. Champion Hogan was quickest at 10.255. Paul Baker ran 10.376 and championship hopeful Braedon Enos clicked off a 10.432. Chris Marquis was fourth ahead of Todd Matson. P Baker's best lap was 10.071 as he won the dash by nearly a half lap over Hogan and Marquis. The lone heat race went to Enos with a best lap of 10.320 as P Baker ran second ahead of Marquis. Hogan wrapped up the hotly contested title with a win in the crash shortened 16 lap feature. She was 1/2 second ahead of P Baker at the checkered flag with a best lap of 10.342. P Baker ran a 10.134 best. Vic Hannan ran third ahead of Enos, newcomer Danyail Kienzle and Marquis. Todd Matson, Jim Matson, Jim DeArmond and Harold Frazier were all forced out in the first four laps. With her big feature win in the finale, Hogan ended up 12 points in front of Enos and 95 ahead of Hannan. The absent Cody Smith ranked fourth ahead of last year's champion Kevin Acosta and P Baker, who started the season late.

Remember that there will be a playday before the awards banquet on Saturday, March 11. The second annual West Coast Nationals moves from it's July 4th weekend date of 2005 to it's new slot on March 17-19.
