Red Bluff, CA -- The three day West Coast Nationals for the outlaw karts opened with four of the seven divisions in action on Friday night at the indoor fairgrounds track in Red Bluff. Pete Johnston drove his Sprint Kart Enterprises entry to a $150 win in the 25 lap A Main for the Open Outlaw Karts after timing in 2nd quick and finishing 2nd in both his heat and the dash. The teams were accumulating points in every event that will determine how they line up in the finals action on Sunday afternoon. The Open Outlaws are the only division where one half of the teams are racing on Friday night and the other half on Saturday night. Pavement late model star Ryan Foster ran second in the 25 lapper just 2/3 of a second behind Johnston and John Michael Bunch just nipped fast timer Mason Moore for third. The track normally runs the 125 class with the 250s, but this weekend they are letting them have their own action. Fourth quick Dana Evans ran second in the dash and won their 20 lap feature, just under one second ahead of Lakeport Speedway star Trevor Cristiani. Nevada's Tanner Thorson ran third. Thirty two karts appeared for the Box Stock action and third quick Tyler Seavey ran second in the dash, won his heat and their 25 lap preliminary night feature. Fast timer Casey McClain managed to win the dash, run second in his heat and then again place second in the 25 lapper. He was four seconds back of T Seavey at the checkered flag. Double duty T Thorson ran third in this class ahead of James Edens and Logan Seavey. L Seavey was rookie of the year in the Box Stocks during the regular point season. After timing in 2nd and placing second in both the heat and dash, Paul Baker won the 20 lap feature for the F200 class. Fast timer Tony Mills ran second, four seconds behind the winner. Vic Hannan was third.

Moore edged out Johnston for fast time honors in a 30 kart turnout for the Open Outlaws. Moore ran 8.592 and Johnston had a 8.626. Kyle Larson claimed the third slot at 8.669 and Steven Gannon ran a 8.692. Keith Bloom Jr was fifth quick ahead of Dillon Silverman, Foster and Bunch. The fastest 8 raced in the dash and Moore also won that with a best lap of 8.822 and a winning margin of 2/3 of a second over Johnston and Larson. There were four ten lap heat races and Cycleland champion Tyler Wolf won the first with a best lap of 8.824 as he edged out Moore and Bubba Hill. Female star Emalee Ramirez won heat 2 by a half second over Johnston. Silverman ran third. Johnston clicked off a 8.849 lap and Ramirez a 8.912. Michael Hubert III won heat 3 in front of Larson and Cody Braund. Larson was just 1/3 of a second back at the checkered flag. Larson ran 8.864 and Hubert a 8.926. Jonny Lentz had a 8.881 best as he won heat 4 by just 1/3 of a second over Gannon. Gannon's best lap was 8.834 and Bunch ran third. Young Tyler Reddick won the B Main in a photo finish with Kenny McArthur. Cristiani also raced in this class and ran third in the B Main ahead of Daniel Becker and Idaho's Travis Higby. The top four from each heat advanced, but only two out of the B Main as the track expanded the A Main grids to 18 karts for this weekend. The track remained fast for the feature action as Johnston ran a 8.876 best lap in his win ahead of Foster, Bunch, Moore and Wolf. Moore was the only other A Main kart in the 8's with a 8.911 best lap. Lentz ran sixth ahead of Braund, McArthur, Larson and Silverman. Gannon was a flip victim on lap 4 of the feature and Hubert only lasted five laps. The top 12 finished on the lead lap.

Thirteen karts appeared in the 125 class. Kenny Allen from Chico turned quick time at 8.994 and David Chaves ran a 9.189. Ukiah's Cristiani ranked third at 9.260 and had an extremely busy weekend planned. After racing in the two classes tonight, he was returning to Lakeport on Saturday night for their final point race then towing back to Red Bluff for three divisions of action on Sunday afternoon. Evans ranked fourth at 9.296 with Dillon Aldred just missing the dash with a 9.338. Cristiani won the dash from the pole, one second ahead of Evans. Both Allen and Chaves sat out the dash action after both had problems in their heat races. Aldred won the opening heat race, less than 1/2 second ahead of the Nevada duo of Cameron Millard and Tanner Thorson. C Millard ran a very quick 9.090 lap in that 10 lapper. Max Adams won heat 2 over Cody Eskew and Jacob Bell. Adams was just 1/3 of a second in front at the checkered flag. Chaves beat Dayne Amyx and Kyle Tellstrom in a small B Main. Chaves then ripped off the quickest A Main lap of 9.237, but fell out with five rounds to run in the 20 lapper. Evans had a 9.266 best and won by nearly one second ahead of Cristiani. Thorson ran third ahead of Adams, C Millard, Eskew, J Bell and the lapped kart of Aldred.

The 32 kart Box Stock turnout included several of the season's best Beginner Box Stock racers running without their usual restrictor plates. McClain was quickest at 9.502. Lain Baker ran 9.863, T Seavey a 9.864 and Beginner Box Stock star Richie Carrel was the final 9 second entry at 9.930. The busy Tellstrom ranked fifth ahead of double division Thorson, Edens and usual beginner box stock racer Michael Call. This division ran an 8 kart, 8 lap dash and McClain ripped off a 9.667 lap as he won by 1.5 seconds over T Seavey. Carrel ran third ahead of Edens and L Seavey. L Seavey did managed to nip McClain in the first heat, winning by just 1/5 second with a best lap of 9.965. McClain was again very quick at 9.738. Bryce Acquistapace ran third. Brandon White from Eureka won heat 2 by a half second over Thorson with David Lee a lap behind in third ahead of Oregon racer Ricky Perry. T Seavey beat Edens by two seconds in heat 3 as Wesley Dougherty ran third. Beginner Box Stock star Chase Majdic ran a 9.859 best lap as he won heat 4 by 1.6 seconds over friendly rival Carrel as Tony Rossi placed third. With four karts advancing from each heat race, only two transfer spots were available in the 20 lap B Main. Tellstrom dominated that race with a 9.809 best lap as he was over six seconds ahead of Nevada's Zachary Heinz at the finish. Taylor Baker missed a transfer in third as second quick L Baker placed fourth over Zachary Rushing and Austin Pace. The 25 lap A Main produced quick laps as T Seavey won by nearly four seconds with a best lap of 9.628. McClain settled for second and ran a 9.606 best. He just nipped Thorson and Edens for second and L Seavey was right behind that trio in fifth.
