Chico, CA -- On the same night that brother Sean Becker scored the biggest win of his winged sprint car racing career with a $5500 triumph at the Dave Bradway Memorial at nearby Silver Dollar Speedway, Daniel Becker led all 20 laps from the pole position to capture Saturday night’s Open Outlaw Kart A Main at Cycleland Speedway. It even proved to be a bigger night for the Becker clan as their brother-in-law Scott Burgess captured the sportsman division honors. Burgess is the husband of Jaime Becker, who has pretty much sat aside her racing career but still roots on her husband and her brothers. D Becker was 7th quick and won the opening heat to sit on the pole for the 20 lapper. Substitute Dillon Silverman made a last lap pass on Kyle Larson to get second. In the Open Intermediate 20 lapper, Colby Copeland got around race long leader Brian Southers on lap 18 to get that win afer coming from 9th starting. Larson nosed ahead of Southers after they took the white flag, but Southers was able to retake second on that final round. Larson had come from the back of the field after capturing B Main honors. After turning the quickest qualifying time of any division on the night, Keith Bloom Jr came from 9th to pace the final 10 laps and capture the 20 lap feature for the Intermediate division. Pole starter Thomas Bruckenstein ran second ahead of Jeremy Andreason. Burgess was fifth quick in the sportsman and ran second to Grant Keeter in the dash. It took him just five laps to come from sixth to the lead in their 20 lap feature. Scott Morton passed pole starter Donnie Ritcheson at the white flag to get second with Ritcheson settling for third. Triple division racer James Edens scored a clean sweep in the pro box stocks with fast time and wins in the dash and feature. Donell Nelson was second in the main ahead of Skylar Tweedle. Second quick and second in the dash, young Logan Seavey took box stock A Main honors ahead of pole starter Bryce Acquistapace and fourth starting Wyatt Brown. Edens was fourth in this class. After a fourth place heat finish, William Seim raced to a win in the Beginner Box Stock main event ahead of Michael Ing and Ryan Robinson.
Defending champion Tyler Wolf was quickest of the 33 Open Outlaws with a 11.238 qualifying run. Tyler McCain ran 11.300 and Pete Johnston a 11.341. Also making the dash were Michael Helwig, a returning Rudger Worley and double division racer Camron Mendes. D Becker just missed the dash in 7th slot as 29 of the 33 entries timed into the 11’s. In this class, the six dash karts qualify for the A Main and the top four from three heat races are added. The final four entries come from the B Main. The dash karts start the 20 lap feature in the 5th through 10th slots in the order that they finish the dash. T McCain took dash honors ahead of Johnston, Wolf and Worley. The three heat winners and second place from heat 1 fill the front two rows for the 20 lap A Main. D Becker won the pole for the 20 lapper by capturing heat 1 from the pole ahead of Ryan Foster and Nic Helwig. Subbing for Austin Kerns, Dillon Silverman earned the other front row assignment with a win in heat 2 also from the pole. Chad Widener ran second ahead of David Tarter. Kyle Larson was only 18th quick so he had to start 4th in heat 3. He raced to a win ahead of female star Emalee Ramirez and Open Intermediate feature winner Colby Copeland. Sixteenth quick Jerry Johnson raced to the B Main win ahead of Oregon’s Jason Mendenhall, John Michael Bunch and Ron LaPlant. LaPlant’s kart wouldn’t run in time trials and he only made it to 7th in his heat, but he charged from 8th to 4th in the B Main. Just missing transfers were Anthony Roach, Cody Smith and Ryan Everson. A Roach started last in his heat after being declared to be too loud in time trials. Heat winners D Becker, Silverman and Larson started in the front of the 22 kart, 20 lap A Main with Foster also in row 2 ahead of dash winner McCain. D Becker ended up leading all 20 laps. Larson took second from Silverman on the start, but lost the spot to the flying McCain on lap 7. After a caution, new runnerup McCain pulled a wheelie coming down for the green flag and flipped to end his race. Widener had fallen out on lap 2. Larson retook second and challenged D Becker hard for the top spot. On the last lap, Larson moved high on the track in an attempt to take the win from D Becker, but ended up losing second to Silverman in a photo finish. Both were 1.3 seconds back of winner D Becker. Wolf took fourth from Ramirez on lap 14 and finished there. Ramirez ran fifth ahead of M Helwig, Johnston, Bunch, Copeland, Worley and Chris Faulkner. Mendenhall ran 14th behind Tyler Schaaf and Tarter. The top 18 karts finished on the lead lap with both A J Kerns and Foster out on lap 13. Quickest lap in the feature was run by D Becker at 11.438 on lap 11. McCain clicked off a 11.564 before his race ending flip. Larson ran an 11.572.
Mason Moore was the fastest of the 32 Open Intermediates in time trials at 11.241. Copeland ran 11.265 and Silverman ranked third at 11.477. Also making the dash were Mendes, Tyler Taylor and female star Alissa Geving. This class uses the same lineup procedures so Geving earned fifth starting slot in the 20 lap feature with her dash win from the pole ahead of Moore and Silverman. Seventh quick Brian Southers earned the pole for the 20 lapper with a win in heat 2 from the pole over Michael Forslund and Danny Andreason. Nevada’s Mackena Bell won heat 2 from the pole and also sat on the front row for the 20 lapper. #11 finished 1-2-3 in heat 2 as Tyler Reddick ran second ahead of Matthew Davis. Troy Foulger won heat 3 from the outside front row ahead of Jake Park and Stephanie Yannazzo. Larson broke on the first lap of heat 3, but got his kart repaired in time to tag the 14 kart B Main. He came from the 7th row to finish second behind Quincy’s Cole Peard who started third. Mike Schroeder and Josh Keheley also advanced while Kayla Mincey and Leana Kenyon just missed. Austin Roach and Chad Pace both drew rough driving calls in the B Main. Heat winners Southers, M Bell and Foulger started out front in the 22 kart, 20 lap A Main. Southers led the first 17 laps. Foulger lost second to Forslund on lap 5 and Copeland moved into third at the same time. Forslund went out on lap 16 and Copeland inherited second. Copeland drove around Southers to pace the final 3 laps for the win. Larson started 20th and got collected in a first lap incident. He narrowly missed getting caught in a second tangle that would have ended his night. Larson drove all the way to the front, getting third on lap 16 and passing Southers at the white flag for second. Southers was able to retake second on the last lap and Larson ended a busy night with a pair of third place efforts. Geving was strong all night and ran fourth ahead of Silverman, last starter Keheley, M Bell, Davis, Reddick and Taylor. Foulger, D Andreason and Nick Larsen also finished on the lead lap. Copeland was ½ second ahead of Southers at the checkered flag. Southers was the only racer to dip into the 11’s in the feature with a 11.925 best lap. Forslund had a 12.031, Silverman a 12.059 and Moore a 12.091. Moore broke at the white flag while in 7th. Mendes, Aaron Bundy and Kenny McArthur were all out in the first lap incident.
The 250 machines that dominate the Intermediate class actually emerged with the quickest qualifying time of the night as Keith Bloom Jr ran a 11.156 lap to pace a 26 kart entry. Reddick ran 11.350 and Max Adams was third at 11.541. Also making the dash were Sean Martin, Jake Cartwright and triple division racer James Edens. With the smaller kart count, the six dash karts are joined by the top six from two heat races and the top four from a smaller B Main to fill a 22 kart feature. Edens won the dash from the pole ahead of Reddick and Cartwright. With just two heats, the top two finishers from each get to start in front of the six dash karts in the 20 lap feature. Thomas Bruckenstein was 7th quick and earned the pole for the 20 lapper with his heat 1 win over Jeremy Andreason and young Tyler Seavey. Jeremy Phillips earned the other front row assignment with a win in heat 2 over Cameron Bartlett and Jake Morgan. Nevada’s Tanner Thorson was penalized out of a heat race transfer for a jump start. Thorson did win the B Main ahead of Cavin Hawkins and young Kellcy Bell, also from Nevada. Bruckenstein and Phillips shared the front row for the 22 kart, 20 lap A Main with J Andreason and Bartlett right behind ahead of Edens and Reddick. Bloom ran fifth in the dash, so he lined up 9th for the 20 lapper. Bruckenstein led the first 10 laps. Bloom was third in just 3 laps and took second from J Andreason on lap 5. Bloom raced around Bruckenstein for the top spot on lap 11 and he won with Bruckenstein in second. Bartlett had taken third from J Andreason on lap 10, but he lost it back on lap 15. J Andreason finished third over Bartlett, Adams, Morgan, Cartwright, Reddick, Edens and William Fielding.
Mark Torrison paced 21 sportsman entries in time trials with a 11.619 lap. This division is for the adult racers who are little older than the majority or of larger stature. Scott Morton ran a 11.810 and Brad Jones was third at 11.837. Daren Rogers, Burgess and Grant Keeter also made the dash. Keeter raced to the dash win over Burgess and Morton. Seventh quick Donnie Ritcheson earned the pole for their 20 lap feature with his win in heat 1 over Jim Zigan and Rick Arnott. Greg Yannazzo also had a pole and won heat 2 over Scott Butler and Rob Jones. Butler had been a Lakeport regular in the past, but was forced to discover Cycleland when Lakeport elected to not run an outdoor season this summer. The top four from the heat action lined up in front of the six dash karts, but Burgess wasted little time getting to the front from his third row start. Ritcheson did lead four laps, but it was Burgess out front from lap 5 on. Ritcheson stayed in second until Morton drove by him at the white flag. Ritcheson did salvage third ahead of B Jones, Keeter, Rob Jones, Torrison, Butler and Jeremy Wilson. Travis Stopplemore was 10th.
There were only 8 Pro Box Stocks and Edens was quickest at 12.991. Reilly Gillingwater ran 13.088 and Skylar Tweedle ranked third at 13.147. Donell Nelson clicked off a 13.294. Edens won the dash with all 8 racers participating. D Nelson ran second ahead of Bryadon Evans and Gillingwater. Edens then finished off a perfect night with a feature win ahead of D Nelson, Tweedle, Ryan Burdick, Braedon Enos, Evans, Gillingwater and Peter Shepard.
The Seavey brothers were the two fastest of the 21 Box Stocks as T Seavey ran 13.043 and Logan Seavey a 13.064. Chase Majdic was a distant third at 13.296. Lain Baker, Gillingwater and the busy Edens also made the dash. Gillingwater raced to this dash win over L Seavey, T Seavey and Edens. Bryce Acquistapace was 7th quick and earned the pole for the A Main with his heat one win over Eureka’s Brandon White and Ukiah’s Kyle Tellstrom. Cavin Hawkins won the other heat race in front of Wyatt Brown and Bailie Zigan. In this division, the A Main is limited to 18 karts so Riley Matson won a small B Main ahead of Keifer Winter and Shane Brandon. L Seavey was the feature winner in front of pole starter Acquistapace, Brown, Edens, T Seavey, Baker, Tellstrom, Gillingwater and Winter.
All nine Beginner Box Stocks ran in a single heat race and Tucker Donnelly was the heat winner over Ryan Robinson and Michael Ing. William Seim ran fourth in the heat, but won feature honors over Ing, Robinson, Tyler Hawkins, Dalton Wilcox, Lane West, Trevor Zigan, Lucas Tellstrom and Tucker Donnelly.
