Ukiah, CA -- Fast timer and point leader Noel McCormack Jr led the final 10 laps to score his sixth modified feature win in 8 races in 2006 Saturday night at Ukiah Speedway. Corey James also had a big night as he timed in third quick, won both the dash and heat and then placed second in the 30 lapper. Ken Bush from Redwood Valley retunred after a long absence and paced the first 20 laps before finishing third. Fast timer and point leader Mike Lovell also led the final half of the 30 lap late model feature for the win. The car won for the sixth time in seven races. Point runnerup Dustin Knight ran second and Jeremy Hopkins joined the action for the first time in 2006, running third after getting the dash win. The fast timer and point leader also won the bomber honors as young Jared Martin from Ukiah paced the final 9 laps for that 30 lap win. Tom Andrews ran second ahead of George Mavrakis. Ron Duke Sr won both the dash and heat, but ran fifth in the feature and dropped 9 points back of Martin in their fierce track title fight. It was Martin’s third win of the year. Real Stock point leader Mikey Lovell hurt himself riding his bike on Friday and had to use a sub. He lined up Loren Powers Jr and Powers Jr had a big night as he turned quick time and then won the dash, heat and 30 lap feature. A J Randall was second in the main ahead of Brandon Powers. It was a big night for the Andrews clan as Alex Andrews returned to action in the Bandoleros and stopped Trevor Cristiani’s bid for a clean sweep with his 20 lap feature win. Ironically, A Andrews had stalled to force a yellow that gave him the stop at taking the lead late from Cristiani.

McCormack was quickest of the 7 modifieds at 13.144 and Dustin DeRosier ran 13.244. James had a 13.292 and Allen Gibney a 13.307. Bush ran 13.353. Clay Caturegli fell to fourth in points as he missed his first race of the season. James beat McCormack in the dash. McCormack ran last in the heat as James again won ahead of Bush and R J Randall. Bush took an early lead in the 30 lapper over R Randall, but James was second on lap 2. By lap 3, McCormack had raced to third. On lap 19, McCormack took second from James and he made his winning pass on Bush on lap 21. Gibney fell out on lap 10 and James also got around Bush to finish second. Bush was third over DeRosier, R Randall and Paul Pedroncelli Jr. McCormack is 78 points up on James and 184 ahead of DeRosier. C Caturegli fell 24 points back of DeRosier.

There were 10 late models, but impressive rookie Loren Powers Sr broke in practice to end his night. Mike Lovell was quickest at 12.946 as Knight ran 13.158 and Sean Caturegli returned with a 13.190. Hopkins clicked off a 13.267 with rookie Jeremy Donahoo just missing the dash at 13.282. Hopkins beat Mike Lovell in the dash. Mike Lovell did beat Hopkins and Knight in the fast heat and Kevin Ostern won the slow heat over Mike Neilson and Forest Kuecker. Neilson led the first 11 laps of the feature with Knight taking over for the next two before Neilson retook the lead. Mike Lovell passed Neilson for the top spot on lap 16. Knight climbed to a 2nd ahead of Hopkins, Donahoo, Ostern, Kuecker and Neilson. Mike Lovell has opened a 93 point lead on Knight.

There were 8 bombers as Danny Helm elected to move over from the Real Stocks and tour late model star Mike Doss was subbing for Derek Lovell. Martin was quickest at 14.581. George Mavrakis ran 14.609 and Duke Sr a 14.635. Andy Vanderveer was foruth at 14.686 and Doss just missed the dash with his 14.733 lap. Duke Sr beat Vanderveer in the dash and then he outraced Martin and Vanderveer in the fast heat. G Mavrakis led 17 laps of the 30 lapper feature and Duke Sr four before Martin took over for the final 9 laps. T Andrews made a late move to second ahead of G Mavrakis, Doss and Duke Sr. Rich Feliz returned to action with a sixth. Vanderveer has stayed within 64 points of leader Martin and is 20 ahead of Derek Lovell.

The real stock action was all sub Loren Powers Jr. He ran a 15.483 qualifying lap to easily beat the 16.030 of A J Randall. Anthony McCoy ran 16.141. Powers Jr came from the rear to win the dash over A J Randall and McCoy. Powers Jr then beat Brandon Powers in the heat. A J Randall led four laps of the 30 lap feature before Powers Jr had worked his way to the lead. Powers Jr won ahead of A J Randall, B Powers, Randy Portlock and Brandon Brown. Cristiani was the only Bandolero to time at 15.454 and he beat A Andrews in both the heat and dash. Cristiani also led the 20 lap feature until a stalled A Andrews forced a lap 16 yellow. On the restart, A Andrews took over and won ahead of Cristiani. It was only the second time in 8 featues that Cristiani has been beaten.
