Rapid City, SD -- John Bey from Deadwood SD not only scored a clean sweep in the WISSOTA dirt late model action at Black Hills Speedway on Friday night, but will emerge as the new track point leader as incoming leader Eric Mass had to watch the main event action from the infield as a broken oil pump belt sidelined his Rayburn during the feature pace laps. The $800 win was Bey’s third of 2006 in his Mastersbilt and his former crewman Scott Anderson raced to a $675 second. Early race leader Chris Johnson was third in the 11 car feature. Mass was coming off a two win weekend in the NAPA-MDA Series special trip into North Dakota last weekend and he got a heat race win tonight. He was 9 points up on Steve Neumiller and 12 ahead of Bey in the points starting tonight’s action.
Mass won the opening heat race over Brent Neilsen and Mike Stadel. Bey outraced Neumiller and Anderson in heat 2. Neumiller nearly retired at the end of the 2005 season, but decided to return to action for another year. Mass broke before the initial green flag in the feature and could only watch as his point lead disappeared. Bey was able to race underneath Chris Johnson early in the feature and race to the win. Anderson got around Johnson to finish second and Johnson settled for third. Neumiller came from deep in the field to get fourth. Johnson did double duty and ran third in the Wissota Modified feature. Having returned to action after an absence here in 2006, Dan Henrikson ran fifth ahead of Dan Hofer, Lynn Amick and Morris Oberle. Those 8 cars were running at the finish as Stadel and Steve Varner both fell out during the race. Henrikson was fourth ranked at the start of the night, just 2 ahead of Hofer and 5 in front of Anderson.
The June 23 race will open another two race weekend for the NAPA-MDA Tour as they race here on Friday and finish up the weekend at Gillette Thunder Speedway on Saturday June 24.
