Banks, OR -- Using a dash win to sit on the pole, Jason Wines was a wire to wire winner in the curfew shortened 21 lap feature for the Fastrak Xtreme Pacific Coast crate engine dirt late model series on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway. Wines timed in third quick, ran second in his heat and won the dash from the pole to earn the pole for the scheduled 40 lap feature. The main got the green flag at 10:21 but only 21 laps had been scored when the track’s 11 o’clock curfew brought the early ending. Wines won $1000 and second year racer Branden Lindberg capped his best career night with a $700 second. He was quick timer and won heat 1. He ran second in the dash and chased Wines to the feature win. There was an exciting three way fight for second and series point leader Greg Walters got the $475 third. Walters had a six race winning streak snapped at the previous Pacific Coast race by Tim Goodwin. Jeremy Schram was a $400 fourth and Goodwin ran fifth.

Lindberg started his racing career with a few events remaining in 2005 when the series ran with open motors. His 15.141 was quickest of the 16 entries on a very warm night. Jeremy Schram ranked second with a 15.310 and Wines clicked off a 15.336. Rookie Jeff Biffle ranked fourth with his 15.431 and a disappointed Walters was fifth at 15.543. Jerry Schram was sixth. The two heat races were straight up off the time trials. Lindberg was a wire to wire winner from the pole in heat 1 and Wines ran second. Walters managed a third despite brushing the wall coming off turn 4 on the final lap. Biffle spun out of second early in heat 2. Jeremy Schram led from the pole, but slipped high on lap 8 and his father Jerry Schram got by him for the win. Jeremy ran second and his uncle Jimmy Schram joined the Fastrak action with a third from sixth starting. In the dash, Wines beat Jeremy Schram on the start and raced to the feature pole earning win. Lindberg came from the back row for second ahead of Jeremy Schram and Jerry Schram. The dash finish determined the front two rows for the feature with Walters and Jimmy Schram holding down row 3 ahead of Sayre and Terry Ferrando.

Several cautions slowed the action in the feature, contributing to the fact that only 21 laps could be scored before the 11 o’clock curfew. Wines raced into the lead over Lindberg and Jeremy Schram. The first caution came on lap 2 as Ferrando spun Jerry Schram in turn 2. On the restart, Lindberg slipped too high coming off turn 2 and Jeremy Schram drove by him for second. The next early race caution found Sayre with a flat tire and Ferrando with front end damage. The caution was extended to allow Sayre to get his tire changed and return. The third caution came on lap 5 as Jason Johnson got into the fence in turn 1. He tried to drive to the pits, but his damaged steering forced him to take a tow. Wines continued to lead Jeremy Schram, Lindberg and Walters. Dwayne Potter and Doug Jones tangled for the next yellow. Walters was making an outside run at Lindberg for third and that allowed Ferrando to briefly get underneath Walters for fourth. The last caution came as Jones got stuck in the middle of the Walters/Lindberg duel. Jones car suffered heavy damage and Goodwin got collected up in the incident. Jones was towed off and Goodwin restored to his spot. With the 11 o’clock curfew on hand, Jeremy Schram slipped high coming off turn 2 giving both Lindberg and Walters a shot at him. A three wide duel between the threesome saw Lindberg run the middle to 2nd behind race winner Wines. Walters was on the inside and nipped outside groove running Jeremy Schram for third. Goodwin ran fifth for $300. After the race, Jerry Schram lost his sixth place finishing spot for not following the directions of the race officials. That moved Biffle into sixth and he earned the race’s hard charger award. Jimmy Schram was 7th ahead of Ferrando, Sayre and Rob Ireland. Redmond’s Mieah Burkley joined the action for the first time in a Rocket and ran 12th.

In the Sunset Speedway point standings, Walters is 9 points ahead of Goodwin and 11 in front of Wines. Lindberg is just 4 points back of 2nd ranked Goodwin. Jeremy Schram is fifth, 19 points back of Walters.
