Antioch, CA -- Kellen Chadwick had planned to be racing for $10,000 in Elma WA on Saturday night, but the tragic death of Elma promoter Fred Brownfield cancelled the remainder of that weekend early on Saturday morning and Chadwick made a hurried tow back to run at his home track Antioch Speedway. After a third in his heat race, Chadwick won his fifth All Star feature for a $600 payday. Steve Noack ran second in both his heat and the feature and previous week winner Keith Brown Sr was third in his Shaw. Robert Norris had a season best fourth. The BCRA Midget Lites were in action on the ¼ mile clay oval and Atwater’s Cameron Beard made his first 2006 appearance with them a winning one as he mastered the dry slick track conditions. Sam Corso ran second ahead of Reno’s Jesse Harmon. Beard had been first across the finish line at a recent Bakersfield Speedway race for the California Lightning Sprints only to be disqualified for a fuel infraction. Daniel Mendes was the super stock feature winner ahead of fifth ranked Tony McCown and Ken Rhoades. A fifth for defending champion Melissa Hansen closed her to within 12 points of point leader Todd Gomez, who ran 14th. Rookie Billy Barnes is ranked third in the pure stock standings following his first feature win. Jason Robles ran second and point leader Jimmy Coppin was third. Barnes gained the win when Bob Bennett was disqualified in the tech area. Rob Waldrop ran fifth behind Tony Jennings and stands 29 points back of Coppin. The Mini Trux special was won by point leader Steve Walde ahead of Joe Cambra and second ranked Pete Paulsen. Walde’s point lead is 50 over Paulsen as former runnerup Nick Holt dropped to third with a feature scratch. Nichole Quadrelli got her first feature win in the four bangers and did it in clean sweep fashion as she also won her heat race. Doug Taylor was second in the feature ahead of Richard Dragonetti and point leader Derek Dragonetti. A last place run for Bruno Korbmacher allowed D Dragonetti to take the point lead by just four tallies over Korbmacher.

A 16 car dirt modified field was divided into a pair of heat races and Brown won the opening heat race over Noack and Chadwick with rookie Kevin Fitzgerald in fourth. Brad Coelho won heat 2 over Larry Lundin and Aaron Crowell. Chadwick was in his family Pro Chassis and he got the $600 feature win. He now has five wins and one second in the six Antioch races staged in 2006. He has a big point lead, but doesn’t expect to run 100% of the track’s schedule. Noack ran second in the feature ahead of Brown, Norris, Bill Wallace, Coelho, Crowell, Gary Hetrick, Mike Salazar and Troy Burkart. Chadwick is 48 points up on Coelho with Brown another 32 points back in third. A last place run dropped Ed Daviess to fourth in points, 12 behind Brown.

18 BCRA Midget Lites were divided into a pair of heat races. Ron Weimer won heat 1 over Scott Kinney and Harmon. Greg Bardonnex put the Lonnie Lopez car in the winner’s circle for heat 2 over Joey Hoover and Corso. Beard ran fifth in his heat, but the versatile driver had the dry slick feature conditions wired and raced to a main event win. Corso ran second ahead of Harmon, young Richard Bailey, Jeff Griffin, Chad Compton, Kevin Hunter, Chris Glass, Rick Holbrook and Kinney. J Griffin emerged as the series point lead, just one point ahead of Matt Sherman, who ran 17th. Kinney is just 4 points back of J Griffin and Glass is fourth in points, 16 behind the leader. The club had a June 24 Marysville race cancelled so will now run with the usual wings at Placerville on July 1 and then take the wings off for a return to Placerville on July 8.

The super stocks also had a 16 car turnout and Carl Berendsen II won heat 1 over Gomez and Rhoades. Petaluma mini stock star Danny Potts has enjoyed immediate success in his midseason jump into this class as he won heat 2 over Michael Newman and Brian Zachary. D Mendes was fourth in his heat, but raced to the feature win ahead of T McCown, Rhoades, Chris Sorenson, M Hansen, Potts, Manny Avila, Dean Plambeck, Zachary and Terry DeCarlo Jr. Gomez was 14th and holds just a 12 point lead over M Hansen. Avila is just 4 poitns back of M Hansen and 2 ahead of DeCarlo Jr. T McCown is only 24 points out of first in fifth place.

Fifteen pure stocks were split into two heats and Coppin drove last year’s title car to the win in heat 1 over Barnes and Gene Haney. Fitzgerald won the title in 2005. Waldrop beat Mark Wilson and Jon Haney in heat 2. Barnes gained the feature win with the Bennett disqualification and Robles ran second ahead of Coppin, Tony Jennings, Waldrop, J Haney, Scott Hansen, Dan McCown, Brian Beard II and G Haney. Barnes is 37 points back of second ranked Waldrop. A dozen Mini Trux were also split into a pair of heat races. Walde had a perfect night as he edged out Eric Bookout and Dean Cline in heat 1. Cambra won heat 2 over Paulsen and Dave Finklea. The scratch of track title hopeful Holt left an 11 truck feature. Walde got the feature win ahead of Cambra, Paulsen, Bookout, Joey Shreffler, Joe Butler, John Tinay and Rodney Dutra. Holt is now 12 points back of Paulsen. The four bangers had nine entries and Quadrelli got the heat one win over D Dragonetti and Randle. Korbmacher did win heat 2 ahead of Jeff Dragonetti and Ken Radabaugh. Quadrelli raced to her first feature triumph in front of Taylor, R Dragonetti, D Dragonetti, Randle and Gary Larson. R Dragonetti is third in points, 32 behind Korbmacher and 24 in front of Taylor.

June 24 will see the Western Dirt Late Model Tour returning for their second 2006 visit. This race pays $3000 to win and $300 to start with a special $100 tow award open to anyone towing from Bakersfield or Santa Maria or further. The limited late models run a 30 lap feature for $750 to win and the pure stocks will also be in action.
