![]() Teenage Talent: THE HOME STRETCH....
All good things must come to and end.
Coming off a 7 race win streak, we went to the Bullring this weekend….. On Friday night I had a starting position near the rear, I got stuck in slower traffic, after making my way past them, laps had dwindled down, and I found myself finishing the race in second. Not a bad finish, but not what I needed to better my position in the national points. Going into Saturday’s race I needed to win. I qualified 11th which is the worst qualifying I have had all year. However with the invert based on average finishes I found myself starting the race in 6th position. I knew that all I needed was a division win, I made my way to 4th overall and 1st in my division. The 11 car of Morrissey was strong, he kept on my tail. I maintained my division win until lap 19 of a 25 lap main. Then the leaders went spinning on the front stretch. I tried to go low and avoid the mayhem, to no avail. I found the left rear tire of the 23 car of Mahawney which went my car into the air and inches from landing on the inside wall. A short ambulance ride later, I was back in my pits with my damaged race car. I had a bruised elbow and my car had a broken spindle, tie rods, and ball joints. I ended up finishing 10th in my division. Not the finishes I had hoped for this weekend, with these finishes, it diminishes my chances of winning the Semi-Pro National Championship. I still have a 67 point lead in the Young Lions National points, Regardless if I win the 2006 Semi-Pro championship or not, I will have had a remarkable season, 26 Main Event wins, 35 top 5’s, and 37 top 10’s in 41 starts. On a positive note, my youngest brother Broc Murphy was able to pull off the win, his very first in a legend main event. We are very proud of him. I look forward to the opportunity this weekend to better those results. I would like to thank my sponsors Frazier Masonry Corporation, www.roxproducts.com, and Walsma Oil Company, as well as my DAD and crewchief Jeff Murphy.
