TCR has been sold. It was the fastest 1/2 mile track west of the Mississippi! Why was it faster than other ovals? Because the track configuration was a true tri-oval. That means that the track had three corners and three straights. Each straight and each corner was different. This made it much harder for teams to find the "perfect" car setup (configuration). The track configuration allowed teams to find setups that allowed the cars to carry more speed overall through the highly banked asphalt corners.
If corners with different bankings and radius weren't enough, the track had curbs on the inside of corners as well as concrete walls and tires on the outside of corners.
Enough? Hardly! The most treacherous part about racing at TCR was racing at sunset. The windshields on the race cars made of a plastic material called "Lexan". Lexan was and is safer than glass and easier to clean up after a wreck. Lexan easily scratches and each tiny scratch causes light to refract like a prism. What does all this mean? When the driver turned into turn 2 when the sun was setting the light through the windshield was like a thousand flashbulbs going off 2 feet in front of his/her eyes. The driver went from being blinded to driving into the shade right before the west turn!
This combination of events made for some great challenges for the drivers and great action for the fans.
